As I read though the various threads and post here, something becomes apparent; a lot of folks are interested in time-line accuracy as far as fluff and tech goes.

Which is great; I figure if you are going to say 'this is set in 3049' then that should actually count for something beyond being near the time of The Clan Invasion and thus a good background story.

However.

If they do do something anachronistic (and I think they might), is that going to be the victim of fan-boy fury, or are we all wise to enough to think that maybe they did it for a good and/or funky reason?

The question is:

How serious do you take the time-line to be, how inflexible is your attitude to such things and why?

Discuss.

I think they should try to stick to the canon lore as much as they can, because its what most of the players want (inclouding me :D ) and it would really add some atmosphere to the game. Think of it: "Its day 456 after release (date). Most of the western territory was taken by the Clans, we salvaged some of their mechs, but one cant fight hundreds of others, we must have a plan a good plan." - not many games can pride themselves with something this epic happening in their story. :)
