THat being said. Today I was chasing off lights (first a cicada, then a jenner) off our team LRMboat when the LRM boat just randomly wnadered into the open ,I rushed out of my relatively safe position to try and help but to no avail. I looked around for the rest of my team, who were all close by but not doing anything while I desperately tried to get 3 enemies off my battered tail. Then I ran around a corner only to collide with no less than 2 awesomes. In a silly twitch I fired my 12xSRM weapon group while high on heat and shut down. With dark orange/red CT internals. I'll just say it right now. I didn't quit to save pointless K/D. I just ragequitted. All the stupidity (mine included) and misfortune combined into a storm nerdrage and I quit. It was the first time I did that, and I hope it will be the last.
TL:DR ragequits may play a role. A furious ALT+F4 when you dumped yourself in an utterly irrecoverable situation is not improbable given the stressed nature of pugging together with trial mechs.

On your second point though --- I agree. I think MWO is a very tough game for new, single players in a PUG. You're in your trial mech and all these "founders" guys in super spec'ed out mechs just literally mow you down. I can see how people would just DC. But how can the new players learn when they just quit when it hits the fan?
Maybe it's a generational thing.

Ya It tends to be pugs mostly...and I'm not saying that to knock pugs....It is just that it would be kinda hard to do in the TS groups because unless you were running with a bunch of other (there is no polite word) that did that kinda stuff you'd be booted, or most people would leave....at the very least your rep would be tarnished. The community kinda polices itself in that respect.
Oh and you're absolutely right about it being a mutual respect kind of thing.

Well, there's "maybe" and there's "accidentally shutting down in front of multiple 95%+ assaults with no CT armour, red CT internals in a 50-tonner with half the weapons missing"

I've had this happen to me once too. Was petrified because it made me look like I pulled an ALT+F4! I was always adamant that it was the player manually pulling the plug on their client until that happened to me.

Team game, Kills and Kills assists treated equally. This says to me that personal performance is de-emphasised, so follow through on that. Get rid of K/D and just keep Win/Loss, to communicate to people to help their team win the game over personal gloryhounding or chickening out to avoid death.
Maybe in the distant future when Trial Mechs and Random Drops have been disconnected from the Community Warfare part, you can have K/D in for your Arena/Deathmatch performance, completely seperate from your performance in the larger MMO section of the game. But right now we should be teaching people how to play the game as its intended to be in the final product, which is something that doesn't gel with minmaxing K/D.

I see this being done by members of premades, and people with Founders tags almost exclusively...
.
I had that happen yesterday (5) times, right before kill shot... Then game said I killed (BLANK FOR NAME)...
I don't get credit for kill, and they dont lose stats... It's a move for the D.!CKLESS, and that's what they are.
.
Also, I don't see new people doing this, they don't even know how to view their stats, so "DON'T" even try to blame this on newbs..!!
I'll tell you what Odin's Fist......if you EVER see ANY Steele's 1st Legion member disco on death. I will personally kick them out of the Legion right there on the spot. You are out of your mind, to blame this action on what you call "premades". Since you're not in a MERC CORP you wouldn't know how we play. We are professionals that CARE about this game. We have invested in this game. Just sick and tired of people saying, "oh don't get mad he disconnnected....BS. If the disco happens, 2 seconds before the mech gets hit with the killing blow then the ******* suicided. And that's bollocks. The guy who wasted his money with LRM's, or SRM's doesn't get his missles back. He doesn't get the kill either. It's cheap, and NO it IS mostly PUGS. I have yet to see ONE Alt+F4 disco on ANY of my groups.
So get off your ego for a bit, and if you're having problems with "premades" as you call them, then REPORT THEM. How about some names man? Which "premade" was it? Who on that Merc Corp? If you can't answer those questions then you're just in here trolling for the noob masses, and trying to get some sympathy for what is most likely your own behavior.
Now I could be way off, and if I am sorry....but I assure you most noobs know how to suicide....they're all running scared right now. And this whole matchmaking thing is breaking up the community as a whole.
I don't EVER disco on purpose, and I won't no matter how bad I think the odds are. My K/D is fine and I don't worry about it. Nor should anyone else. It certainly doesn't tell you how good you are. Because if you're suicidal, I've got your name, and I know you suck. That's how I handle it.

I have "ZERO" issues with premades, oh, and my EGO??... What are you talking about..?? I have been in multiple TeamSpeak servers, and listened to "CLAN" premades do this and that, and also puff up their chests after stomping pugs in the pre MM tweak days..
.
Let me clue you in on something "newbs that don't even know where to find their STATS in the profile section are not the guys doing the DC before death", and don't even try to sell me that load...
.
I'm not naming names, (POLICY ON NAME AND SHAME THREADS), but I have listened to "CLAN PREMADES" doing this to preserve their K/D ratio, and not just 1 CLAN, or Brigade, but several TS servers run by CLANS/Brigades... Also, where did I blame "YOUR" brigade...?? Why so defensive.??
.
SORRY.. I do not Disco before Death Chief, you see i'm a Clan leader http://www.teamakc.net/news.php
If you have an issue you feel the need to discuss, contact me there.
.
I tell you what, private Messege me, send me a pilots list of your guys, and I will take you up on that offer, I will e-mail you screenshots and what not if it happens... How's that work for ya..??

Yeah, watched this guy blow himself up on the other team on Caustic, over text comms, and then congratulate himself. Some people are just pathetic on multiple levels. I assume he either thinks he's important enough that he's making some kind of "statement", or he's just a total basement-dwelling loser who gets off on making other people have less fun.

So we have people disconnecting to save their precious BETA k/d ratio. And then we have people spending more time reporting players, for this reason or that reason, than the time they spend playing the game.

I tend to crash most when there is a large amount of particle effects on the screen. Ie. when I am just killing someone or when someone is landing 20 LRMs on my head. It actually kind of bothers me that this crashing behavior makes it look like I'm a bad-mannered tool who kills his client when he is about to die.
So far the game seems to crash ~once every 10 matches, so this is actually pretty common. Based on this, I'd actually say that unintentional client crash disconnects are more common than the other kind.

I saw this guy too today. We kind of just sighed, but one person on his team got really irate, cursing and proclaiming that he's "going to report his sorry ***". Can't really blame him.

Played with him once, started talking trash and hitting team members. Cored his *** not much later, felt good too.
