Not much else to do in anticipation for some. I'm -supposed- to be building a couple web sites at the moment but I'm still tabbing over to the forums here lurkin and reading well over 75% of the topics posted. *sigh* One day, I'll be able to drool feverishly while watching an install screen with "Mechwarrior: Online" fill my screen.

As a bonus, in my opinion, this just goes to show how much people care about the IP and will put so much into it once it is here. We can already see the great community forming and growing. No just imagine how empassioned the wars will be on the battlefield =D (because 'meh' state of mind players are not much better than an AI. I want a challenge to make my heart pound and great people to rib while debriefing)

I suppose you have a point. But, I don't know, just some topics don't really need this much attention IMHO. Either way, there's not much I can do about it anyways. <_<

At this point, everyone's said what needs to be said. We're just keeping the thread alive until Bryan gets back and has a chance to write something official on the subject. <_<

Come on.. really.. ? Haven't we seen this from PGI before..? ;)

Tease us, get us all ramped up.. thinking there will be something special announced before or "maybe" during the weekend, then drag it out on Mon and Tues.. Just to announce the stuff they were planning on announcing anyway on Wed.. :D

So... You know when they will announce it.. sometime around 12-1PM EST on Wed..

Did I mention I have come to love Wednesdays though.. :D

BTW Russ/Bryan/Paul we are on to you :D

In my head, I will be a freeborn Galaxy Commander of clan Wolf-in-exile, and there isn't anything anyone can do about it =P If i get to wear an insignia, even better. But neither anyone 'laying claim' to the clan, or even the time frame in which this game is set, is going to stop me romping around the field blowing up 'mechs to an inner monologue running in my mind. If i see someone else claiming they are from the same clan? I'll pretend they're not and engage the indiscriminately. Some people might consider this 'ruining their role play', but we can't all get what we want.

I never forgot how much I loved that show (have all 4 seasons + Peacekeeper Wars on DVD) but thanks to moving and having no internet or TV, I now have the time to go through them all again!

Hell might even get through Firefly/Serenity too before internet comes on Wednesday.

i dont understand why so many people are intent on running a company or a battalion whereas myself if i am to go the mercenary route i simply want to be a part of a one lance mercenary unit being that not every unit is huge there has to be the little guy

To each his own.

If someone is happy running a Lance or playing the role of a Lone Wolf, more power to them! But there are those of us who also want to be able to drop in 12v12s with a full company of people we know and trust. The larger the unit, the more players available for drops. If your Lance is missing a member, you have to pick up a Lone Wolf in order to run a 4v4. If you run a 12v12, you will be dropping with two lances you don't really know. If, as a larger unit, we run into a night when we have 40 people online, we can drop three full companies and rotate out the remaining players to give people a break as needed, or let them drop in a 4v4. But the point is, most of the time, when you face us in battle, you will be facing players who all wear the same tag, are in the same TS server, know one another and have trained with one another extensively. You won't be facing a disorganized conglomeration of lances and lone wolves.

That isn't to say those types of players won't win a fair chunk of their matches. The good ones definitely will. But ask anyone whose played online PvP for any period of time and they will tell you, the side that is organized and fights together regularly will win out in the vast majority of matches.

I think I like the idea better of letting people call themselves what ever they want.

Then when the game starts and the real "Clan XYZ" that PGI sets up is there, they come and stomp them with their PGI funded tech and mechs for usurping their name. Wana bet PGI can't make a computerized mech hit squad that never misses. ;)

The Bounty Hunter will test anyone's claims of their heraldry........

He will also do coolant flushes for $19.99 + applicable local taxes. Those hailing from the FWL or FRR will receive an additional 10% discount with proper ID.

Even though this topic has gone on for quite a while and has been more or less exhausted of viewpoints, I'd still like to throw in my 2 cents:

1. The claiming of canon units/factions as one's own always seemed a little gauche to me.

2. Pursuant to Paul's comments in the FAQ, the devs are going to keep notable factions and units off-limits: for example, no "Clan Wolf" and no "10th Lyran Guard".

3. MechWarrior/BattleTech is the only game franchise I've seen where a large number of the player-base actively tries to emulate the in-game lore. That we have this problem ("Are we going up against Jade Falcon Elite or the Oklahoma Jade Falcons?") is utterly fascinating. Usually, people name their factions things like, "Goonsquad" or "The Vietnam ROFLcopters" regardless of the fictional setting of their game. I can't think of a way for PGI to capitalize on this: other than to create unit templates within each faction and let players create derivatives. So, for example, if you were a Davion player, you could take your pick: do you want to be a Crucis Lancer, an Avalon Hussar, or a Robinson Regular? Then, you'd get the next # of that unit in line that wasn't already "claimed" by canon--102nd Avalon Hussars, for example. Given that virtually all House/Clan units use some numbering scheme (with exceptions: the Falcon Guard, which would be off-limits), I think such a system might work.

Still nothing? Meh. I have been more interested in what Bryan is/was gonna post than any other recent announcement. Checking very 30 minutes on my iPhone ain't as easy as it sounds. Stupid work blocking the internets.

How bout an ETA? Something drool-worthy for the masses?
