Hey everyone,

so I am experiencing an issue with running MWO. After downloading and patching I seem to get the black screen issue (only sound, black windowed game; no visuals). Forum searching and google spit out a few ideas that so far have not been working, any new insight/help on this matter?

done so far but no luck:
- reinstalled the game several times (as admin, compatibility mode, ...
- replaced the bumpers.pak file with the one in the workaround section
- running in 32bit mode

cheers for help, drake

Hey DrakeZ,

Many ppl have the same issue, me too, lets's just hope zhey'll fix it soon...
Because theres no Way for you to fix it...

What you could try however is to press ALT +ENTER and maybe ur lucky... It worked for me but I got the 4 fps bug then so It seems like theres no solution for that...

I tried the alt+enter and it just stayed black. guess I will have to wait for another patch, if only I would atleast know what is causing this

THIS!

I wish there was some way to flag when someone does not disconnect gracefully. I'm scared people think I'm either AFK or trying to flee on black screens and other mem crashes :D

Had this problem too. Did you reinstall to the default program files directory? That was the only thing that made it work for me.

Is there a way to rollback to a previous patch?

As MWO is a MMO Live game, There is absolutely no way to do a patch rollback. The Game always check for the current version and updates it. Also using a Older game version would boot you from the server due to a version mismatch. So ya No way to rollback.

Okay, I fixed my issue with the following steps:

1. Start Menu -> Run Regedit
2. File -> Export -> Make a backup
3. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> Right Click -> Permissions -> Choose your user name -> Full Control
4. I did the same under HKEY_USERS

Hope this helps someone.

That Won't work for everyone, because there many reasons as to why people are getting this black screen issue.

Edit: Also you shouldn't need to change permissions in the registry if you had full admin control of your computer and the UAC is setup properly.

What lead you to this?
What OS are you using?
If Vista/7/8 did you go do Control Panel \ User Accounts \ Select your name if more than one profile \ Change User Account Control Settings \ Change notification-permissions?

And even with that done, on the MWO shortcut, right click/properties/compat tab/set with Admin privileges checked?
