I would love to see an attack/defense map/battle where the defense had to protect a factory or other vital installation, and the attacker could either destroy it or the mechs to win.

The trick? If either side destroys or damages the building(s) they have to pay repair bills. That could mean a decision where you:

1) As attackers, try to take the building unharmed, but then have to be very very careful when you attack the defenders
2) As defenders, try to damage the building scorched earth style if you are losing. The attackers would then suddenly be the ones defending the building.
3) As attackers, decide to retreat instead of taking the damaged building, losing the battle, but hurting to opposition in the pocket book.
4) As defenders you have the option to meet the attackers away form the buildings to minimize damage or risk the damage and hope the attackers will try to minimize damage on the building, thus giving you a tactical advantage since you are shooting unhindered.

Of course you may lose XP as well as money if you damage the buildings since it is frowned upon in this time period. This would make the decisions to shoot or not even tougher.

This assumes some kind of destructible buildings and a way to monitor damage to buildings. But it would be very fun, and the tactical options are fairly widespread

It's poor game design to have factors in the metagame strongly affecting isolated matches. Things are novel only once (or a few times), not constantly, especially if the novelty is with only one feature and not twenty, so the "don't damage the building, but you'll win by destroying it on attack anyway" will become a nuisance; players will just destroy it anyway because it's an easy win. It is also bad to open it up so easily to griefing. (Let's shoot the building at the beginning with massive firepower!)

Given the choice of Destroy the Building and win, then have to Pay to replace it (some crazy Massive #), or destroy the Defenders and Win and have to pay post game repairs if we win doesn't sound like a lot of FUN really.

Every time I win, I pay a Repair Fee. How is it we can actually win again?

For regular games it is a bad idea. Howevever, I think it is a good idea for a clan vs clan campaign.
