So I'm sick of being told that I suck because I can't aim my SRMs on my HUNCHBACK HBK-4SP at fast moving targets. I choose not to waste heat and ammo and I'm called a terrible player, even when I do more than twice the damage as the 2nd place person on my team. Here's a little note to all of you guys who think it's because of crappy aim. Hunchies cannot aim their missiles or their ballistic weapons, they are static weapons that shoot directly straight from the shoulders. They don't move like the arms and therefore don't follow your crosshair like the arms.
Before you noobs hate, know what the mech does so you don't look like a tool. Not just the Hunchback but every mech.
P.S.
This is constructive and is also venting.

Don't Hate The Player, Hate The Mech!

Whoever told you directly that you suck, because you cannot hit a fast moving mech, with bad netcode, with a weapon that spreads out pretty damn far for being a ******* missile...
...is an ********. Do not listen to these people. You are probably an above average player, who is conscious of the crap economy and trying to make more by reserving ammo (which is what mech pilots did in canon, too).
Props for making a thread like this, don't let yourself be put down by random ******** in the interwebs.

Add to that, SRM's are hard to aim with anyway... not only do you have to lead the target, but you also have to do some quick arithmetic in your head to account for the 2 second delay, and place the trajectory accordingly. What I normally do, is bust out my old college protractor on the screen, and place it centered on my target. Hope this helps!
^ Extreme sarcasm up there. Just incase anyone didn't get it >.<
I agree with the thread creator.

SRM's have quite the wide spread. Put on a pair of Streak SRM's instead, which are much better for hunting down and hitting light mechs with.
Well. They were, anyway. *Shakes fist at ECM*
Not only do light mechs get lag shields, not only do light mechs get incredibly fast speed, not only are light mechs immune to knockdowns, but NOW you can't even track them with Streak missiles because of ECM.
Seriously. Ridiculous.

I heard of some old MechWarrior 3 players placing clear tape on their screen as a ruler for lag shooting.

Yeah I've been having issues where I trail 4 medium lasers perfectly across the "arms" of light mechs and their armor goes yellow, that's it. Even if I wanted to use SRMs it'd be a waste of time and make me want to throw my mouse at the wall. Just the ignorance of some people blows my mind... I mean, we are playing the same game, right?

I feel this should have been directed at 1 person through the in game chat rather than posted in a thread on a forum where players it's targeted at probably won't even ever read it. Constructive? Nope. Venting? Correct. But don't use a forum for that. Go put it on a facebook blog post or something.

The SSRM series trades guaranteed hits for potential hits of the SRM series. Therefore, a smaller SSRM launcher will have around the same average damage as a larger missile rack.
They were invented to save weight. The Clan variants just made them brutally offensive mech destruction hammers capable of felling entire planets.
People call streaks cheese, but forget that an SRM4 averages about two hits, and an SRM6 averages somewhere around 3 (dependent on if you round up or down, I round down because half a missile doesn't hit). Unless you totally miss, an SRM 4 does the same average damage as a SSRM2.
In tabletop.
In MWO, missiles run off a cone fire, instead of random hits - so aim and proximity actually matter. Tabletop's 'to hit' was completely separate from 'number of missiles,' so being close or far had nothing to do with how well you hit, just whether or not you hit in the first place.
Streaks are a specific thing. They tank out an entire missile hardpoint for a system that cannot hit with more than 2 missiles. It WILL hit with 2, but cannot potentially hit with 4, or 6. It does not require "aim" like a SRM, but DOES require lock on, meaning you often spend more time trying to get the lock instead of spray and pray like you can with SRM.
Streaks have a completely different playstyle than SRM. Neither is any more or less "skilled," because frankly we are talking about a video game here and I do not consider any of it a measure of "skill." It is a video game. If you want to call it "skill" strapping four SRM6 on your mech, and "bullshart" strapping four SSRM2 on your mech, that is your business. Both are viable weapons designed to do different things.
Frankly, SRM packs are EVEN BETTER in MWO than they should be, because it is entirely possible to hit with every missile every time. All you have to do is get close and face the target correctly. There was no way to modify the missile hit table in battletech short of NARC.

You fail to understand this has happened multiple times with not just myself, but with many others in many different games, so I feel I am in the right to post it where many will see it because the playerbase is an issue in this game as in any other MMO but is not addressed. I will leave it at that.
