Can someone explain me differences between engines? For example:
Standard Engine 260 vs, XL Engine 260.
I just don't understand that....

XL engines cost more but are bigger and spread into the side torso's and if that torso is destroyed kill your mech. They also weight less.
Edit: example of mechs that benefit from standard
Atlas
Centurions - Debatable but they often lose the side torso because of the sides size.
Example of a few mechs that could be good with XL
Jenner - Faster light mech, harder to hit and if you take that much damage on the side you are probably near dead anyway
Catapult - Hard to hit side torso's, when firing at them usually hit center so they benefit from the speed boost for the bigger engine and still save weight.

It depends, normally you can put a much larger engine, say instead of a 245 you can put a XL300 and still save a few tons. So in that instance you will run faster.
Or you could put in the same size and go the same speed but save like 10 tons for other stuff.
Edit: OK, so you can run your cat and say pack if full of larger LRM's and more ammo and still go 64 or put in a larger engine maybe add a few tons of ammo or heatsinks and run myabe in the 80's which means faster torso twist and turning.
But beware the XL cost more to repair.

Your turning and movement speed only depends on the number of the engine. An XL 260 will have the exact same performance as a Standard 260. The thing is, the XL engine is much lighter. But it takes more slots and you are vulnerable to dying from losing your side torso.

For LRMs/Support? It is ok – nice for the free weight, but not required
For SRMs/Brawling? Definitely worth the XL

That really is a decision that is up to you. If you want to maximize the earnings then stick with standard. Also if you are primarily an LRM mech then I would say stick with standard as well since the faster turning may not benefit you as much for the cost of repair.
If you want a mech that goes real fast or is a close brawler then the XL would be good.
Regardless they are expensive, like 5 mil expensive. However if you get the 300XL then you could play with it then if you do not like it drop it into a Jenner eventually when you get one and it makes the Jenner even better.
Edit: Ram said it. I will get you ninja with my pirate sword!

2x 20 LRM 360 (so standard, so need them more)
4 Med lasers
FF Armor
Structure is Endo-Steel
Head - 18
CT-54
CTR-30
RT/LT-40
RTR/LTR-20
RA/LA-37
RL/LL - 30
I need to get some LRM ammo. Is there any difference between Armor/Structure Standard and FF/Endo-Steel difference in weight and in protection?
EDIT: Oh and i like to using LRM 20 and 4 Med Laser let's say 50/50

OK, it has been a bit since I piloted a cat but I would lose the FF, it is expensive to fix and does not give you that much, especially considering the 14 slots it takes. Endo is good it gives half of the weight back from your core structure which is the weight of the mech /10 or 6.5 tons (so about 3 tons back) for standard for the Cat.
you could go with a similar engine you could add a lot more ammo and even upgrade the lasers to pulse or large ones (I think they are in the torso's). you could go somewhere in between and still go a bit faster and still add stuff.
BTW by losing the FF and adding a XL it would make your mech better overall and give more options.
Edit: As you can see there are many options. Another option is take the same cbills and grab another mech to run like a hunchback or a light like a Jenner D.

NP, last thing. When you unlock the pilot skills on three different variants of the same mech, like the A1, C4, K2 you get good boosts in the Master(?) skills like a boost to speed. So maybe pickup another Cat.
