So let me get this straight...
4 Test Maps...small test maps at that.
No meta-game where Houses vie for control of galactic regions and planetary control
No guilds/corporations
Major balancing of weapons and secondary systems still the primary focus of development releases
Bare bones chat system
No lobby
No VOIP
This is what you think PGI has planned? This is their vision?
Wrong. No. Negative. No fuggin Way, No Fuggin How. Ergo, this is BETA. This is NOT Live. The lack of further wipes is so irrelevant to Any part of the equation. I'm gobsmacked that the status of wipes enters anyone's mind in relation to the status of the development cycle.
The beta client we have now is just and only that: a Beta Client.
The glaring lack of features that will be in The Actual Game should be all anyone needs to know regarding the status of the game-to-be. Somehow, this gets missed and/or completely disregarded in lieu of personal wants and pontifical blathering aimed at redefining what has no industry wide acceptance as a single, definable term in the first place (i.e...Open Beta).
Marinate on this before making any response, Community-At-Large. If you disagree, which many will no doubt, just remember that you don't get to decide what the state of the game is at present. PGI decides that. We're just the Beta Testers. For, you know...the Beta in which we are taking part.

The company can just hide behind the term "Open Beta" to cover up mistakes they make.

Why? Name a single thing that will change for players between how the game stands today and when it's "released". Your stats won't change, your character won't be wiped, you don't get refunded any purchases you make, nothing will change at all. PGI get's all the advantages of a commercial release without any of the responsibilities.
Just because a developer wants to try and get all the benefits of releasing a game to market but avoid the bad press of having tons of crippling bugs and missing features by calling it "open beta" doesn't mean they should.

This.
With no guaranteed resets in the future, the ability to permanently spend your MCs, and a fairly small set of maps/'mechs available, I have very little incentive to actually try and play right now.

It's your duck , you can call it a turkey if you wish.
That does'nt change the fact it's a duck. This game is live.

Incorrect. They are offering the individual users the Option to enhance their experience if they so choose. Nobody is being forced to spend a dime. Just because "You" choose to spend money doesn't change any of the facts I previously posted. Again, it boils down to what "you" think the vision for the project truly is. If anyone believes that what we have now is The Game, you have some seriously low expectations.
