It's finally happening. While the Linux port of the Source engine and some of its games were already announced almost exactly two years ago, only rumours existed of a native port of the Steam platform itself, which VALVe always denied. But now VALVe invited Michael Larabel ‏from Phoronix and they talked about Steam coming to Linux (and other technical stuff about the ports):

I'm glad that Linux players will be getting some love, but I had to chime in that I always found it funny when people chose to spell Valve's name with all caps except for the 'E' at the end. They would make it lowercase like you did ('VALVe') but if you look at the actual value logo, ALL the letters are uppercase; the last is just in small caps and superscripted.

Anyway, since superscripting a letter may not be possible in every forum (and even here it is not properly styled), it's more convenient to write a lower case 'e', if you desire to visually distinguish the company name from an actual valve. That's how I see it at least.

It's true though. If you're going to do something, at least do it the right way first. It's like me and people who spell out The Old Republic as "SWToR" instead of SWTOR or SW:TOR. It's not called Star Wars: The old Republic idiots!

The source games and Steam already worked pretty well thru wine, but this is great news.

I hope we get a Tux hat in TF2. Make it happen, Gaben!
