So, what does a commando do that other lights and some mediums don't do better?

When I first bought one everyone was still running LRM boats and it seemed like a good way to get into a mech that could go harass them. Now every match is just full of Jenners and Cicadas that are just as fast as I am but have more guns and more armor than I do...

Am I missing something or is the commando just straight up worse in every way than a Jenner? (At least with like Jenner vs. Atlas vs. Missile boat each does something better than the other.)

Its the worst mech in the game,, dies almost instantly and is completely useless. Everything it does, can be done better by other mechs.

I dont even know why they chose to put it into the game. In table top it was only useful because you could field a handful of commandos instead of 1 good mech because of its low battle value.

Dont even buy it, and save up for a jenner.

Lowest repair bill is about the only thing I can think of atmo. A jenner is superior in every other facet?

The Commando is entirely outclassed by the Jenner, but it's not really a fair comparison when the latter has a 40% weight advantage. If matchmaking is ever balanced by tonnage rather than treating every mech of the same weight class as if they were identical, you would see Commandos become legitimately useful, especially in organized play. They're also suffering from the current hard speed cap. They could be faster than a Jenner, but not until the game can handle anything going faster than 140 kph.

Commando has its advantages, low profile and fast speed which makes it an extremely viable scouting mech. With the current game mode available and the size of maps yes it seems the commando has lost a lot of its potential but if we do get bigger maps which require good scouting I am willing to bet you will see alot of little commando heads poking over hilltops and running through valleys calling out your location.

Urban mech and Flea. You are wrong sir.

It is a cheap beginner mech with low repair bills. I bought the 1D as my first mech and used it to farm for a cat C4

3 missile hard points and the only scout with true arm swing (though it's debatable if you can take advantage of this). I've seen some good ones though I do believe that for the most part the jenner reigns supreme out of all the scouts.

Well apart from being a one shot fun firework for my double gauss, it has a hand mounted energy slot - with some skill it *could* be a precise weapon.

But, no, it is terrible. Only the lagshield ones are annoying, becasue of well, lagshield.

Okay "budget" mech, nothing special...kind of seems like a waste of a mech to prioritize it in so early.

A commando has different (and fewer) hardpoints, and also has arms with full actuators that let give you slightly better aiming ability.
With the current engine limitations a Commando will have more leftover tonnage if they decide to go full speed (140kph) with a standard engine and no endosteel. (7 tons left vs 6.5)
With endosteel the Jenner and Commando both have the same leftover tonnage at 140kph with a standard engine. (8.25 tons for both)

With XL engines the Jenner is just plain better, an extra 4.5-5tons of useful load at 140kph.

Commando with 3xssrm2s and a medium laser running 110kph on a standard engine is a cheap and very effective scout and close quarters fighter. I regularly score 200+ damage a round in it, and to be honest, I've never seen the appeal in the jenner.

The only light I keep in my stable is a commando.

How the what? I tried launching with a PPC commando and it said invalid loadout.. then removed the mech from my mechlab and eventually crashed.

3 missile hardpoint Commando is pretty much the only one that does something a Jenner doesn't.

And it does it very well.

Still, the arms of the Commando, no matter which variant, make it an absolute annoying pest (or in the case of the missile variant, a very dangerous opponent). It can run circles around even other light mechs and still get its shots to land because of its arms, whereas a Jenner has to rely on its torso twist alone.

I kept having a blast in the trial commando, do you guys think I should invest in one? If so, which?
I want to save up for a hunchback, but I keep looking back at the commando. Its just so much fun to pilot that little runt ^^

If you enjoy it why not?
Buy three. You need them to unlock efficiencies anyway :D

3 missle slots on a light mech, can do hit and run wth lrm's or kill opposing light mechs that dont have ssrms.

Its also a harder target to hit, when its side on its wafer thin. Much harder to hit than a Jenner.

Also if you power down in deep water, your 100% submerged, hidden and i think most damage is reduced underwater.

With 3xSSRM-2's and a mlas it can be a decent scout killer. But a good jenner with 2xssrms and alot more beam weapons and armor will kill you first everytime.
