I had poked around a little, and didn't notice any real mention of how much information people think should be visible in the pre-battle briefing or whatever. I know there'd probably be some differing opinions on this, so I'm curious what everyone personally prefers.

I'm more of the mind of a Blind Drop myself. Thoughts?

(I hope this poll works)

Im a HUGE fan of knowing absolutely nothing about my enemy beforehand. Makes it the most fun for me.

Real Blind Drop!!! I want it to be a surprise, I mean, maybe methods, items, 'contacts' something to gain some knowledge on drops. But most of the time is it Blind.

Until the Clans come... then we will let you know what we are bringing to harbor your doom. Quiaff?

I am agreeing with a Ghost Bear, and Im a Wolf, wow. AFF!
Until the Clans come and are playable. All we SHOULD know going into a drop is: there is an enemy in the area, what the EXPECTED resistance level is, ie: light resistance to a full on heavy resistance, what the terrain type is, based on sattelite recon over flights, and maybe time of day <if applicable> to also weather.

I say most of the time you probably have a blind drop, but it would be nice to see some varying levels of intel when dropping in, since I'm sure your intelligence providers will be better informed some times more than others.

I think it should really depend on the mission at hand. In most cases, all we should know is that there's an enemy out there (presumably because the enemy's still deciding on their own Mechs at that point anyways, depending on when Mech selection occurs before a mission).

However, for certain missions, it would seem appropriate for one force to know more about the other. For example, if my lance is assaulting a planet that has sucessfully beat back several attacks in the recent past, it would make sense to have some sense of who the defenders are - mainly the name of the defending merc corps or house unit or the sizes of the mechs that are being used.

I think either completely blind or just the class disclosed sort of like world of tanks, it’s fun to not know what your enemy is so it’s always a surprise.

Real blind drops but with information of the environment. (like maps, things that can be know out of history, or can be seen from orbit.)

maps change fast, sometimes day by day or hour by hour, terrain can change, and what you see from orbit is a HUGE picture, and doesnt show the grit detail unless you use a sattelite over flight for recon or put boots on ground

Glad to see that there are many like-minded people here! I think most of the fun is seeing what your enemy has brought on the battlefield and reacting as opposed to knowing everything.

It seems more appropriate with the Information Warfare measures disclosed previously.

I'm cool with intel on enemy drops being a commodity to be purchased, bartered or earned. Total Blind Drops should be the norm, but a scanner of varying levels could reveal more and more info on the enemy teams' drops.

Variable. Sometimes you might know a lot, other times nothing. Often, it should be wrong: You're told to expect a scout Lance and some light infantry and vehicle support, for instance, but run headlong into the teeth of an enemy offensive.

Obviously, with the Clans, depending on whether they consider you honorable or not, you should get better or worse intel (the former if honorable, the latter if not).

Alrighty then... Clans outstanding (because they are not a part in this game yet), I think there should be some cues from recent "Party" or Game Lobby setups. We should be able to see the call signs of the pilots on the opposing team(s), and that should be it (maybe even talk to them)!! (I Voted Other)

That is, of course, assuming there will be some social aspect to the game lobby between matches..... and you know what assuming gets you.... :)

With Lyrans, the scout lance and the offensive are generally the same thing. There's no excuse for packing light against them.

To be honest, depending on the mission tree. E.g More missions beforehand depending on scouting and objectives. More intel available at hand.

Blind drop sounds more fun though.

What about an 'other' whereby we allow the force commander to pick? You spend C-bills to pay for better intel. It could still be a range so the more the pay the better your chances of getting better intel.

...or you could 'spend' some of your BV on better intel.

Just a thought.
