Keep doing the same thing expecting different results....
Plus, I seem to be too stupid to figure out the TS hookup.

Chat message from friendly Commando player before game starts: "maybe this time other lights will help me as I go cap... " Hmmm - I thought - probably not going to end well.
Countdown ends and off he goes at full speed - straight line to enemy base.
A short time later "Enemy team name... killed ...friendly team member"
Not many times I laugh at the death of a team member but this was one of them.

Badpug1 has been killed by Someonewhoknowswhathesdoing
No1mawesome has been killed by Patience
CODRAMBO111 has been killed by Teamworkzop
And then the yelling starts that my sniper mech wasn't up helping. I'm sure they looked at my 90 damage and though I was terribad. 90 damage is bad, but you only have so many cycles before the 6 mechs swarming you take you down.

Of course, often the reason is lack of experience, or failure to think through the consequences, but you have to get used to that in any multiplayer game. Nothing (legal) can be done about it. Maybe someone thinks they should crest the ridge because they have a great shot, and believe the other enemies are not nearby. Sometimes, they are right, and it gives your team an advantage. Other times they get utterly owned.

The reason that you are on team stupid is, that there only is "Team Stupid" and "Team Even Worse". There are no good teams

Wrong! Maps are large enough for scouts to matter. I had matches where both teams never even saw one opposing mech on all maps. If maps are large enough for that, scouts matter. Also scouts can hurt you a lot more then just in "your" base. I am regularly outdamaging heavy and assault mechs. If you don't prepare for my attack on you, you are dead meat.

I agree on some parts here.
Scouting is not, looking for the enemy and engaging him mindlessly.
It is, looking for the enemy, distract the enemy, draw the enemy apart, make the enemy easy targets for the rest of the team. That can be utilized by staying at range and it can be utilized by going in toe to toe. If the scout doesn't know his limits, the last one is a death sentence for him.
Scouts DO fight and they are deadly when they do and the pilot is halfway competent. If you keep your scouts from engaging it is the same as amputating yourself one leg.
Lots of scout pilots do not recognize it is their job, to quickly get back to base when it is under attack. A lot of scouts do not know when they are outclassed and should better disengage. A lot of scouts believe that they are invincible due to bad netcode or lag or something like that. Those scouts will only learn from experience, or they will switch to bigger mechs sooner or later.
The good scouts should do exactly what you want to prohibit them from doing. He will tell you the path the enemy is taking or not taking, he will distract the enemy, he will lock targets for the LRM carriers, split the enemy into several parties, deal a lot of damage and keep the enemy scouts from your back. If you are unable to make use of that, then you are the problem, not the scout.

Typically this is what happens :
4 mechs start going one way completely seperate from the rest of the enemy team. Either ignores the rest of the team or insists they don't need help. The enemy team either spots them and wipes them out, or charges the rest of the team, wipes them out, and caps, all the while 4 man premade is in the middle of nowhere.
Usually seen in the forest caves or the frozen tunnel/ravine.

Yeah saw that as well. They just headed for the tunnel on FC-Snow and stood there, while the rest of the team would have gotten slaughtered. That is: If the rest of the team weren't some competent scout pilots, who knew when to get out of a critical situation. So we scouts looked where the rest of "our team" was. Even when I asked them, if the waiting game, they did next to the tunnel, was any fun, they didn't react.
Well... we drew the enemy, that luckily didn't care about capping the base, to that location and forced those four to fight as well. We scouts turned around and looked for solo targets to engage and take out, while the four lazy guys finally found some action. In the end we won. The scouts made 6 out of the 8 kills and outdamaged the lazy ones by far.

I guess that ''these'' people want Mechwarrior 5. But that didn't happen. And are bored of the older MW's campaigne/Instant Action modes. So they are stuck with this game.

You, Sir, are a Mechwarrior, not a sheep!
It may not be enjoyable, but it's clearly a tactic, and it's clearly wise, because it works. If you don't like blobbing, destroy teams which blob.

Lefty comes on and coordinates those of us who cooperate things go well and we win. D-bag comes on and starts commanding like he's general patton no one listens and we lose. Funny how said commander dies first and then continues to scream on and on how we suck.
We hit frostworld and you ignore the tunnel and wander out into the killing fields....you're on your own.
Last time on frostworld we had great fun at the tunnel on the side with the path. 3 of us overlapped and everytime the enemy team poked their heads out we almost simo fired, jenner charged us and couldn't get past then died to our focus.

Of course, you dont have to help if hes running headon into 4 enemy heavies/assaults lol
yeah i follow the Atlas, or anyone with a Founder's tag if i see one. if we scatter to the four winds i follow the biggest scattering and hope for the best. i'm usually in a hunchy so no one expects me to go first...except when i'm with a Steiner scout lance of course.
best thing is to stand around for a few seconds after the start and see where the flow is heading and react accordingly. patience helps, though i admit when the fighting starts i tend to bounce around to whatever nearby friendly mech i see under attack- especially if its some poor atlas being chased by a jenner ;P
