you basically have to render the same scene (and exactly the one that is seen through the zoom module) TWICE... thats why it is in low resolution right now...by default, the engine doesn´t support it, so it has to be "forced" to do it

not to mention that rendering a scene twice might cause some perfomance issues on certain pc´s ? i would guess so...

PGI cant code well enough to get a high enough framerate to do a real scope type zoom because that would be rendering a whole new scene and cut the(already pathetically low for most users) framerate in half and make the game unplayable for anyone not running a top of the line computer.

what if i told you that we have a scope type zoom already, and the zoom modules is different from that? a scope (in shooters for example) also shows only the SCOPED picture, , as it does in mwo when you hit Z, just with some textures and a "scoped-HUD" added... so much for that... gotta go now, have fun guys

Even if you could afford it you would seriously need to be handicapped to actually buy it. Its a total waste of time/money/xp.

Seriously. Why does it take millions of C-bills when I can just use the digital zoom on my camera made in 2003? 20 bucks and a roll of duct tape would be better than that module. Hell, I would prefer an old pirate's monocular. You know what, I'd actually prefer just squinting my eyes to that module.

yeah that's pretty much it from what I hear.that is also why there no rear view camera, the cry engine can't handle multiple views. A good solution might be to replace the PiP with some sort of scope that pops out and goes over the pilots face, you get a nice close up view of the target but at the cost of no longer being able to see any thing else around you.

Wrong.
Everything you buy from the start of Open Beta... is PERMANENT. Meaning if they fix it, and make it into a really awesome tool IN THE FUTURE - if you had already purchased it... your already set.
It is called investing in the future.

Not entirely what i ment, what i was going for was the modual we have now is like a digital zoom on a digital camera, its not like a true optical zoom. Its blowing up the picture but not increasing the resolution so it ends up like what we have now looking like a 8 bit game from a nintendo and blocky as all hell.
What we need is a optical zoom that will increase the resolution at the same rate as the amount of magnification so that the picture does not end up looking blocky like what we have now, but a clear magnafied image(like a rifle scope or true optical zoom on a camera).
And like i said before thats because to do what a true optical zoom would do they would need to render a whole other scene in game and that would kill performance.
And this is totally a PGI cant program or simply doesnt know cryengine enough to be able to program it right issue as there are plenty of cryengine games out that have this functionality, without suffering a huge framerate drop.

You are assuming they actually do ever fix it.
Ive been waiting for PGI to make large energy weapons like PPC's and large ballistics like the AC20 worthwhile for 4+ months now and it still aint happening. Not only that but with the nerfs to DHS its like they are activly fighting for the opposite to make PPC's and ERPPC useless.

PIP isnt a issue though, sure cryengine isnt set up for it out of the box but there are other cryengine games that have this feature and run alot smoother than MWO while also looking better. Its just a matter of does PGI employ compentent cryengine programmers that can code this in, thats the question and as of now it seems like the answer is no.
Hopefully when they streamline the engine and get framerates up and more time programming with cryengine under their belts we will see a real zoom upgrade but im sure not spending the cash/xp on this crap thats worse than a CCTV camera from the 80's.

Please name one of those games, that has this working as a picture in picture, before you claim it's easily done and MWO Devs are stupid.

It is not possible. Try creating a second perspective view in the editor-> there will be lots of render bugs.
CryEngine3 doesn't support multiple viewports at this point.
