Any of you remember the old MechCommander game? I always thought it was the best of the Mech games out there and I can't seem to find a good mirror site or place to d/l it.

Anyone of know of anything? I mean, it isn't as if I can get the old disc to run on my Win7 system nowadays :)

i tried to install my mech commander discs on vista years ago and 7. the problem lies in that the installer on the cd will not install to 64 bit os AT ALL, it has a pop up box and wont run based on not being 32 bit OS.

its quite depressing, i wanted to replay them for fun but i wont demean myself with a 32 bit os to do so.

I was never able to get it to run on my windows 7 machine either, so i dragged out my old xp laptop and it worked like a charm. unfortunately that is your only option. I like to keep an old machine around to play stuff like that on. It also still plays Crecent Hawk's Inception, and Crecent Hawk's Revenge, which i still have a ton of fun with.

I have it installed on Win7 64bit.... Try this site: (expansion for MC2)
Also, try Wolfman's site (stand alone install with LOTS of new campaigns etc)

Both work great!

This works. You cannot get the map editor to work sadly, but you can get the game to run. I have win 7, 64bit and play MechCommander often. If you try you can even get it to work with GameRanger, which will allow you to play it Multiplayer :)

Open the CD, copy the whole CDs contents, paste in to a new folder on the Hard Drive.

Feel free to hit me up with a request to play MCG on GameRanger even, I love MechCommander. Always have, always will.

I'm currently on the final mission, pre-desperate measures. I had to set mine to run in windows 95 mode but after that, it's running fine.

Yep, great game. I remember playing it all the time when I was a kid. I never knew any of the lore or anything, but it was fun to blow **** up :P Recently downloaded it, just as fun as it always was.

runs fine on my win 7 but I am 32bit but like someone said you have to copy it off cd then install. If you like this game there is another new mech game coming that is very similar I dont have the name or link to it but someone else will.

Mechcommander, my number one mech game, and probably the game I played most out of any game I've ever owned.

I still remember the day when I found the game still in its rapper on top of the cupboard, my brother who bought it for me was hiding it. So many good memories. Like 3 years stuck on the third mission not understanding the parameters of it. lol.

Never got to play online though, but I'd probably suck at it anyway. Still boot it up now and again to play the awesome campaign though. One of the best campaigns ever, and it set the bar pretty high, and I always measure any other games campaign based on my memories of mechcommander. If it invokes the same feelings I had back then, then it's good game. Not many have achieved that though.

[Also, poor Siren, got headshot by an Armoured Car in the second mission and died. Good times!]

I think its one of the earlier missions, in Desperate Measures campaign, but I remember restarting it over and over just for a Mad Cat to show up so I can salvage it!

ROFL!!! Yeah, I don't know HOW many times I shelled that refinery trying to get the damn Mad Cat to just 'pod and leave me that beautiful pile of steaming 'mech corpse! Of course, after an exploding tank farm took it in the rear facing, it took like three missions to build up the credits and salvage to equip it, but....

MC1 got me started with Battletech. That game got so much right... big stompy mechs blowing up beautifully detailed sprites. For the time, it was (and still is) amazing.

I'm currently giving Mechcommander 2 Omnitech a try. So far, more units, but harder than MC2. With the reduced RPs, you're really in for a rough ride.

Operation 1 Mission 3, the same mission where you need to find the Raven in the top left of the map. The Timber Wolf surprises you near the end of t he mission... you know when you are already beat up lol

Love MechCommander, I'm actually playing through it on my YouTube. I managed to salvage the Timber Wolf, so the first operation has been a doddle! Just done Op2M1 with the Hunchback IIC, those Aerospace spotters are so annoying......

Mechcommander is a total unforgiving son of a *****. If you think the early missions are bad, best eject now.

The first time that MadCat in O1M3 surprised me and wiped out my team.

The second time I salvaged it but without equipment. Not good enough for me!

So there came a third, fourth, fithh, nth time until i got the mech with all equipment besides his sensors intact.

O1M4 is a piece of cake with that mech, even if your pilots can't use it for best performence yet.

In short: I loved that game and still do. Just reeinstalled it in a virtual XP a few days ago.
