Oh goodness, I love it. I'm in love with it. I want to touch it.

More of a fox than a raven now, eh?

The bird is looking up in that picture, so it might not be curved downward but it is curved, and it should be fairly obvious to see actually.

It's slightly curved in FD's art too, is it not?

The AFFS/AFFC units have salvaged a great many raves over the years. Feel Honored that your ancient enemy see's value in you equipment.

Fair enough maybe I just have an exaggerated memory of it. [EDIT: Actually just checked out the Sarna pictures, it did have a much droopier beak!] After spending a few minutes looking at it the cockpit/beak section by itself does look pretty cool but as part of the whole mech it looks a bit stunted, the lower drooping beak of the previous designs covered up and distracted from the utilitarian (read: not pretty) segment between the legs and beak which is exposed in FD's version. It could just do with a little curving lowering of the beak tip. Still it does have a good vicious stalker look about it, just more canine than raven.

I do like the Davion markings as I always figured that any faction that could get their hands on it would have no qualms about using it as FD has demonstrated.

HOLY CHICKEN WINGS!!!! No, but seriously I love the new design. Heck I love all the new designs. They look so much more realistic! Way to bring out the predator even in the little mechs. ZOMG!!! Stoked :P

Blech. So now we've shoe-horned in the one I.S. light 'mech chassis that only exists in full up (ferro/endo/XL) LostTech variants, and is undetectable by sensors and un-targetable in a game with LoS-limited sensors and limited weapons convergence on targets already? Gee, that doesn't sound like a balance disaster!;) Might as well just pitch the Jenner and Commando now and cram in some Clanner trash like a Phantom or Adder...

Also, how many lances of missile boats does it take to one-shot an Awesome? 50+ points of integrity is a lot to peel off with a weapon that concentrates damage as poorly as an LRM... :P

Looks like it angles downward once or twice around the cockpit. Not that I would call a couple hard angles a curve though. The use of a swooping curve instead of hard angles always made the Raven stand out and contributed to why fans liked it. They might have removed the raven's curves to make the IS feel more blocky and leave the curves to the clans.

Surprise, surprise :P

I know the devs are pretty scout happy when it comes to 'mech releases, but I was kind of hoping for a Medium or Heavy, rather than the obvious. Fantastic artwork anyway!

I love the role the raven represents, but wow...that must have been one heck of a lie it told to get a nose like that. :P

I think it looks mean, certainly more raptor-like, but hey birds are descended from reptiles so its not like a far off notion.

FYI, there's the original Raven RVN-1X, which doesn't have all the Lostech goodies. Also, the RVN-2X, which doesn't have the goodies either. The Raven in the picture SHOULD be the 2X, since the FedSuns "upgraded" all their captured 1Xs to it. I don't see a large laser though.

Probably because what was changed about the Raven was one of the reasons that made it iconic and well liked.

Does '3050' mechs mean everything after 3025 but before Civil War and Jihad era? Because raven is in 3039 TRO.

Sure...3039 TRO. Sorry, I forgot that monstrosity existed.

The legs and rear part of the torso (where the weapons are mounted) looks perfect.
The nose however looks a little too long for my liking. If it was a tiny bit shorter it would have worked fine. It does kinda look like a fighter plane cockpit on the front though.

It's going to take me some getting used to but I would say it's better than the living legends one. Ideally I would have liked a nose halfway between the two, more like the one from the Mechcommander opening video. It's the curve back up at the end of the nose that looks wrong.

If it had kept the same angle on the downward slope as on the window at the front then I think it would have looked better. I understand if it has been done like this to reduce the poly count.

Hope this counts as constructive criticism.

PS. totally saw this one coming too

Dear FD,

Thank you for making the raven not look as ridiculous and hideous as the past incarnations (really digging the beefy legs and the angular torso). I may actually even drive one now. And that's saying a lot coming from me. /nod

Furthermore, I simply must express my utter elation and sincerest of gratitudes for pasting that big old Fed Scums emblem on the side. As you can tell, I'm not a fan of House Davion, but they're better than the CC. The irony of one of the "premiere" and "most iconic" of House Liao's Mechs being revealed in Davion colours is too rich and the CC-QQ too delicious.

Sincerest thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Come on, you think we drew that up and planned the entire pipeline for a 'Mech in a couple weeks? /work overload

(We were actually really happy it won because it co-incided with this release :P)

No, I think you've got ALL the mechs designed up and just teased us with that poll. That way you were ready no matter who won. And that means that you've got the Dervish ready. YAY! ;)

Back on Raven: I like the sharp nose and tucked-in SRM6; and what I believe is the Narc launcher on the left arm. What I don't like are the medium lasers. They look too much like the old art. I was hoping for a more bulky, protected setup for them. The long thin barrels are too delicate for my tastes.

Nit-pick nit-pick nit-pick.

This looks more like a wolf's beak than a Raven's beak. Is there any reason that we can't have the downward curved nose of the original Raven?

i just hope the tagging / narcing works fine.
a missile boat/raven combo should do fine against assault and slow heavy mechs.

i love the raven in mwll, especially the "c" and "d" variants.
nothing like a small, fast, hard detectable 360° torso turnable "budget" mech.

the concept art looks really good, too. like a x-wing jet that got rid of the wings and grew some legs =)
