What about making moduals and weapons on the mech look old, worn and have random pieces fall off or spark? Then as you assert greater skill, or garner prestige. Youd purchase a better tech or parts and your mech would look less weathered. Would have better performance in either efficiency ( heat disipation) or output (heat/ damage increase).
Could get bonuses from using manufacturers parts, aftermarket or modified and refurbiished parts as well. So that the overall effect of set of parts isnt huge, cosmetic with small bonuses for using collectible parts or new ones.
Prestige bonuses could be used to purchase better components from different dealers with access to particular parts.
Just a few random shots.

That's quite a lot of coding, and I don't see it coming. Imagine them to be making secondary and maybe even tertiary skins for mechparts, for every single mech and weapon. While I think the basic idea is nice, it's practically not feasible.

Yes if they go with the idea of benefits from this that alter game interactions like damage and heat values. But alternate and layers of the textures used over the mesh would be relatively easy, and wouldnt change a lot of coding.
But yeah in a perfecr world there would be bonuses to damn near everything, from each little component installed.
