I own 59 mechs, about 2/3rds of which are mastered. Best ones painted in Corsair colors and camo. I have about 20mill sitting in my account.

When PUG'n I frequently get bored in my mechlab.

I started xx xxxxxx xxx xx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxx xxx xxxx xx xxxx playing on a new account.

And that has actually been alot of fun. Bought xxx a Spider (xxx favorite so far). And having to scrimp for cbills and carefully plan every upgrade has been a blast. Compared to having whatever mech i want with all the parts I need and money for more. Being stuck with the standard engine until I get the money up for an xl has been interesting as well.

blahblahblahblhablahalh

Anyone else experienced this? Going "back to basics" being more interesting than playing your "finished" account?

I've thought about doing this a few times, mainly when no new mech releases are on the horizon and I have nothing left to grind.

But I haven't yet. I'm not one who enjoys playing substandard equipment (read: single heat sinks) at all, especially when I know how much better it could be.

I agree. If I were to start an "alt" (and I don't have any temptation to do so), I'd definitely just use cadet bonus/PT to level on trials (likely the Cicada right now, as I know and love the chassis) and then buy a, hm, let's see...SHD-5M :) to make the first bit of the nest egg. I'd miss modules, but I sure wouldn't be playing SHS/stock mechs even at the outset.

Yep, I think the new "champion" trial mech designs was a great move by PGI. All the trials nowadays are decent mechs, certainly better than those abysmal stock trial mechs they had back when I started.

Mmh have to admit I'm filling in some holes with 4 champion mechs atm ... some are superb (Blackjack I'm looking at you). Dragon really doesn't fit my playstyle but I swapped the gauss for a pair of ac 2's and it really works for me now). Centurion was ludicrously overheating so I dropped the 2 MPL to ML and rather like it now. The Catapult .... ummh less said the better and I haven't even looked at what to do with it yet. That's more a limitation of the chassis though as a LRM boat with no energy hardpoint for a tag or artemis seems dubious. In fairness I hate catapults though. :P

I decided to run all of my Phoenix mechs as "super stock" - same basic layout only upgraded. UAC/5 instead of AC/5, ERPPC instead of PPC, SSRMs instead of SRM2, and I've dropped in XL engines, ES and DHS as necessary. The builds are still competitive on a technological standpoint, but using the weird layouts keeps things interesting. Take the Shadow Hawk-2H - it has an AC/5, LRM5, SRM2 and MLas - 4 weapons that just don't group for squat.

Speaking of basics...it is fun to try outrageous builds with what you have already.

I've been running around as a glass cannon with an SDR-5K with 2x AC/2s and no armour. Very fun, I tell ya. I actually survived to use up all 4 tonnes of ammo, did some decent damage, and got a kill or two.
