Well, if PGI wants to say it listens to it's community... you can't get more obvious than this poll.

Short Version?
Oh H*ll No!!!

Look at the polls, we have spoken at 90.9% saying NO to 3rd person view

Please listen to one single request.
Many players never come to the forums so put into the game a small popup that asks the player to vote on this. If you dont want to code it then you could always send one mass email to all players asking them to place there vote on this matter.

So, Between this and related posts, you have over 50,000 views, and around 2000 responses, with about 90% who voted on the related poll voting a resounding NO to 3rd person.

Do we really need to maintain the charade?

If there were ever a time to listen to your "constituency", I would say now is it. This could be the issue that truly does sink this game.

You've got a vocal few thumping their chests and demanding 1st person view only. Most responders are the same 10-20 people who feel strongly enough about it to threaten and cajole to get their way or the highway.

I also want to point out that, this thread began at 1234 TODAY, and right now, it is 905PM in the central time zone. less than 9 HOURS, 44 pages, nearly 900 responses, all decrying the idea of a 3rd person view. PGI, please do not shoot this game it its foot by doing something this wholly BAD. Paul Inoyue your LEAD DESIGNER stated back during CLOSED BETA with a thread specific on THIS one thing, that you would NOT do this. Why make us question this game, and PGI by and large by doing this? I do not say this to sound rude or anything, but, holy cow, if you backtrack on something THIS core to the game, do you honestly expect positive reviews or feedback from us or expect us to remain in the game for any time, since, it would be very apparent we cannot trust a thing you folks say. Not being rude, just brutally honest.

I am actually wondering if this is in fact a call by IGP. I remember PGI saying first person sim, and I thought they were on the right track. Stayed on track too, then a couple of weeks ago a leak about 3rd person, now......... Just a thought. It may not be PGI who is calling this.

I'm actually starting to regret buying a founders package.
I'm sincerely disgusted with the direction this game is going, and has already gone.
I'm ashamed that i actually recommended this game to my friends who have never experianced anything battletech related.

If i only knew that these are the kind of choices my money would help fund, i wouldnt have spent it.
If abandoning thousands of longterm battletech fans, and MWO supporters for a few hundred shorterm spazoids and whiners is the direction you want to take the game, Fine. Let this game fall in line with all the other abominations that dare to use the title "Mechwarrior".
Its truely heartbreaking that especially after a large section of the community jumps onboard for the founders package, just to have the ones we support do a complete 180 on us, on a key topic that everyone can pretty much agree on. [90-10 split on the issue id say].
3rd person view will just dig the ditch MWO is in even deeper.

This news makes me want to play the game even less than i already have been.
what a tragedy.

did i miss something here?
i listened to the podcast, am i the only one lol
I'm sure they said it will be 3rd person to a certain point of experience, then its first person only.
its to help newbies to get used to the idea on how the mech works/turns independently with legs and torso.

why all the rage ?
or did i really miss something when listening lol

I would hope that 3rd person is not added. I came for a mech sim. I will play either way but feel like others a true tutorial mode would be much more effective.

This is kinda funny. They add 3rd person we don't want because they think it will help noobs move, but now we will be able to watch them in 3rd person from behind cover and pop-tart them without them ever seeing us. So now instead of dying and having a hard time seeing where the fire is coming from they will get a great view but never actually be able to shoot back.

Priceless fail logic.

With you all the way on this. It is scary to think they disrespect us this much to do this.

Whilst I can sympathise, I have concerns over a third person view being implemented. I remember back in mechwarrior 4 that certain types of warfare become dominant on the battlefield: Jump-sniping and long range combat. Tactics such as watching over a ridge line whilst fully in cover behind and popping out to take a shot become order of the day and leads to actually quite stagnant stalemates in games with neither side able to move, flank or maneuver because all enemy movements would be 'known', even without targeting or direct LOS. My concern is of 3rd person leading to various exploiting using this view, either through legitimate gamesmanship or foul exploits of the code. Third person always forces others to play in it to even the playing field and ruins immersion.

Wouldn't a good tutorial be better long term solution than what seems to be a quick, short term, 'easy to do' fix?

As for a 3rd person view, I don't have anything to say. Most of the people here seems like they hate the idea, but I personally don't have anything against it, as long as it won't give the player any advantage. Being able to see our mechs from 3rd person view is neat.

Or maybe, you can add in something like a viewing mode in the mech lab. So we can actually rotate the screen, zoom in & zoom out our mech, and see all the glory it holds. Because there are many times that I adore your new mech designs so much, but being unable to see them in a convenient way..It's just kinda sad.. ;)

Perhaps PGI is taking a steve jobs approach.. they know what we want better than we know what we want.. (Which is bull, but is the way PGI has gone so far)..

No 3rd person!

This is the first time I have seen a serious post from PGI that has me questioning the direction of the game. If given the opportunity I would NEVER play on a server/match where 3rd person was allowed due obvious advantages of LOS/etc.

I am massively disappointed this was even brought up/considered.

It's not really a "few". According to the poll thread, well over a thousand people thus far have opposed this, which is a significant portion of the player base for this game, and also probably some of the most active and potentially profitable players for PGI. Based on this feedback, there's no way PGI can do this now, unless it is within the confines of a tutorial mode which does not enter competitive gameplay.

3rd person is a terrible idea.

This topic was beaten to death during MWO's infancy before it even went into BETA. If you'd like to know the reasons it's a terrible idea, I'd advise the Devs to do a SEARCH ON THE FORUMS!

Quickly, off the top of my head:
Eliminates any chance of this game claiming to be a simulation
Provides an advantage to those who use it. 3rd person allows a different field of view that you cannot get from your cockpit.
Allows someone to see around corners
Allows someone to see over hills
Allows someone to see 'Mechs behind them (isn't the radar supposed to be LOS only?)
Allows someone to see 'Mechs to their right/left that they wouldn't see from their cockpit.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
If you cater to the lowest common denominator, that's where the game goes. You don't raise the quality of the game by dumbing it down for those people who will:
1) Not be paying to play it anyway
2) Not be sticking around long because it's not Call of Duty enough
3) Be complaining that it's still too hard.

3rd person goes into this game, I'll likely be requesting a refund, because this is not looking to be MechWarrior: Online, it's looking to be Hawken: But Slower.

The ONLY 3rd person view I could stand behind would be a 3rd POV death cam.

A nice, friendly founder told me it was already in... Alt+F4?

I bet someone's already made that joke but I'm not checking through 40 pages to find out...

IF they are seriously considering this, then, they are actively trying to kill this game. It is that simple. this is now what page 45 of people by and large screaming as politely as we can: NO, HELL NO! to this idea. 890 some odd posts as I write this reply, and some 15k views un under 9 full hours. To all who have actual power to make this happen or to quell it: please stop this before you lose customers. Most of us have waited with baited breath for this game to become a reality, but, this smacks of a PURE short term money grab. I myself have wanted this since the end of MW2 GBL since it was the last decent MW game imho, and now, I am regretting giving my money to you if this is how you respect your core audience.
