Oh H*ll No!!!
Look at the polls, we have spoken at 90.9% saying NO to 3rd person view
Please listen to one single request.
Many players never come to the forums so put into the game a small popup that asks the player to vote on this. If you dont want to code it then you could always send one mass email to all players asking them to place there vote on this matter.

Do we really need to maintain the charade?
If there were ever a time to listen to your "constituency", I would say now is it. This could be the issue that truly does sink this game.
You've got a vocal few thumping their chests and demanding 1st person view only. Most responders are the same 10-20 people who feel strongly enough about it to threaten and cajole to get their way or the highway.

I am actually wondering if this is in fact a call by IGP. I remember PGI saying first person sim, and I thought they were on the right track. Stayed on track too, then a couple of weeks ago a leak about 3rd person, now......... Just a thought. It may not be PGI who is calling this.

I'm sincerely disgusted with the direction this game is going, and has already gone.
I'm ashamed that i actually recommended this game to my friends who have never experianced anything battletech related.
If i only knew that these are the kind of choices my money would help fund, i wouldnt have spent it.
If abandoning thousands of longterm battletech fans, and MWO supporters for a few hundred shorterm spazoids and whiners is the direction you want to take the game, Fine. Let this game fall in line with all the other abominations that dare to use the title "Mechwarrior".
Its truely heartbreaking that especially after a large section of the community jumps onboard for the founders package, just to have the ones we support do a complete 180 on us, on a key topic that everyone can pretty much agree on. [90-10 split on the issue id say].
3rd person view will just dig the ditch MWO is in even deeper.
This news makes me want to play the game even less than i already have been.
what a tragedy.

i listened to the podcast, am i the only one lol
I'm sure they said it will be 3rd person to a certain point of experience, then its first person only.
its to help newbies to get used to the idea on how the mech works/turns independently with legs and torso.
why all the rage ?
or did i really miss something when listening lol

With you all the way on this. It is scary to think they disrespect us this much to do this.

Wouldn't a good tutorial be better long term solution than what seems to be a quick, short term, 'easy to do' fix?

Or maybe, you can add in something like a viewing mode in the mech lab. So we can actually rotate the screen, zoom in & zoom out our mech, and see all the glory it holds. Because there are many times that I adore your new mech designs so much, but being unable to see them in a convenient way..It's just kinda sad..

This is the first time I have seen a serious post from PGI that has me questioning the direction of the game. If given the opportunity I would NEVER play on a server/match where 3rd person was allowed due obvious advantages of LOS/etc.
I am massively disappointed this was even brought up/considered.

It's not really a "few". According to the poll thread, well over a thousand people thus far have opposed this, which is a significant portion of the player base for this game, and also probably some of the most active and potentially profitable players for PGI. Based on this feedback, there's no way PGI can do this now, unless it is within the confines of a tutorial mode which does not enter competitive gameplay.

This topic was beaten to death during MWO's infancy before it even went into BETA. If you'd like to know the reasons it's a terrible idea, I'd advise the Devs to do a SEARCH ON THE FORUMS!
Quickly, off the top of my head:
Eliminates any chance of this game claiming to be a simulation
Provides an advantage to those who use it. 3rd person allows a different field of view that you cannot get from your cockpit.
Allows someone to see around corners
Allows someone to see over hills
Allows someone to see 'Mechs behind them (isn't the radar supposed to be LOS only?)
Allows someone to see 'Mechs to their right/left that they wouldn't see from their cockpit.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
If you cater to the lowest common denominator, that's where the game goes. You don't raise the quality of the game by dumbing it down for those people who will:
1) Not be paying to play it anyway
2) Not be sticking around long because it's not Call of Duty enough
3) Be complaining that it's still too hard.
3rd person goes into this game, I'll likely be requesting a refund, because this is not looking to be MechWarrior: Online, it's looking to be Hawken: But Slower.
The ONLY 3rd person view I could stand behind would be a 3rd POV death cam.
