MechWarrior Online is being designed to put you the player in the seat of the pilot. It is 100% first person view only. Being the pilot is one of our key design pillars and 3rd person breaks that pillar on multiple levels as seen in many of the other 3rd Person discussions.
We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.
While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

to do third person, makes PGI look bad, and we lose the ability to trust them.

Its happening. Please can we help them implement it in a way that doesn't screw up this game for us, rather than mindlessly raging about a decision we honestly can not influence. It's nice to vent how much we hate the idea, but rants and eTantrums won't help us at all.
Let's tell them what the actual problems with it are, rather than just threaten to quit.

Big stompy robots require that claustrophobic experience that blind spots cause.
If people can't figure out turning and torso twisting maybe they should be playing call of duty or whatever the shallow learning curve game of the week is.

Please do not implement 3rd person view.
Add a tutorial for new players to learn how to pilot a mech.
Don't split the player base even further.

says paul. if russ lets this happen, then we no longer can believe a single thing PGI/IGP say, as they become liars through and through, as the lead designer said there would be NO third person and a majority of us may end up leaving the game for good as we cannot support such a egregious lie and slap to our faces. it is pure game breaking easy mode. that is what is wrong with it. it allows for near cheat level ease in seeing things you shouldnt be able to see. also, this is SUPPOSED to be a simulator. tell me Blackace, do you drive your car from above and BEHIND it? no, no you do not, why should we drive our mechs that way? we shouldnt.

They've been told what the problems are. Replies to this thread, and other threads started to discuss the issue are not hard to find.
The issue is new player experience. A tutorial, or tooltips at the bare minimum, would go a long way to alleviating the issues that (they said) led them to decide on a 3rd person perspective. It's also something people have been asking for since I joined the closed beta back in late June.

Okay guys, here is a quick torso twisting lesson for you. Stand up and back away from your computer. Turn your chest right or left and start walking. Notice something? You are looking right/left, but, you are not HEADED that way. THIS is torso twisting. Your legs are like the tracks and hull of a tank, they may be headed one way, while the turret or in this case, TORSO are aimed a different direction. There is an arrow ontop of your compass that shows direction of travel and one ontop that shows TORSO heading. easy to use, easy to learn, do not hurt this game for us by asking for something we clearly do not want.

Its still at a phase where we can stop them from killing the game before its even out of the gate so yes we can fight it as over 90% of the forums agree with this stance if they still go ahead with this its will not end well for PGI in the long run. As the hardcore fans are the ones that will spend alot of cash on the game. We are the ones that will pump cash in every month for years.

who exactly is asking for it that has so much pull in your company to invalidate so many negative responses to it. every thread that talks about 3rd person is 90+ percent negative,
Someone must really have some clout at you office, and be really pushing ya all to add it.
this wont completely ruin the game by being added... it will ruin the game by alienating so many fans who can see by various polls and threads on the subject that it is not wanted, but was added anyways!
please if you want more constructive feed back give us some numbers or info on who really wants it to be added?

"we're getting it wether we like it or not"
Well, then they can kiss the darkest part of my rear. These threads are the over the top sign that they shouldn't do this. They can listen or not, but is it worth triggering a massive conflict for something this dumb? Should you alienate your core fanbase for it?
