Ok, I have one of these and I dug it out and set it up on my Window 7 Pro. Configured just fine, tests fine, works in Freespace 2, but once I launch MWO, MWO acts as if it doesn't see it at all. Any ideas or success configuring this joystick?

@OP: As the Microsoft SideWinder series is vastly outdated and no longer supported by Microsoft; Games are also no longer including support for them too. I recommend upgrading to something more modern and that's still supported.
Also The Devs of MWO have tons of things to do; Which means getting joysticks to work properly is low priority and getting force-feedback is no where on the list because not many games do force-feedback anymore.
If you want to still try to get it working then read here: http://mwomercs.com/...ech-saitek-fix/
See you on the battle field, pilot.

When I hooked mine up the other day it played just fine. Except for all the axes were all messed up, the throttle for example controlled left and right movement. After messing around in options, which detected my input on the joystick, I got it to play reasonably well.
But at the moment joysticks aren't fully supported by the game, and keyboard and mouse set ups rule the day.

I'd like to tell every one. I have a two sidewinder precision pro joysitcks one is new.
Microsoft says on there compatibility site not compatable with win 7. Total bull. You don't need special drivers that don't exist, some one at micro must have been a gammer that liked sticks.
THIS IS FOR ALL JOYSTICK USERS
Its simple in the run line type "joy.cpl".
This will get you to a real joystick control pannel where you can calibrate the stick like in 98, its there you just have to know where to look. I may hook up my old cyberman (Logitech 8 way with a bunch of buttons) to see if its recoginized.
So even after doing the joy.cpl, in the normal control pannel under interface devices you will see the stick but you will not be able to calibrate or test, you must use joy.cpl
What did Heston say " when they pry it from my cold dead hand,".
Enjoy

OP honestly I'd wait for general release to see what changes. I played MW on Windows 95 back in the day, with Thrustmaster pedals and sticks using "game cards" that .... well, they were nightmares of calibration and driver compatibility with sound card, blah blah, but it worked.
Two points being made:
1. I'm not afraid of trying it
2. I tried it on MWO with low-end Thrustmaster control and stick (no pedals), and got the same results I tend to see reported here. One or more axes are screwed up. I messed with settings, blah blah, same thing, or worse as I tried to fix it.
Conclusion: wait, unless you're a mad scientist

I have to disagree with you here. There are no, I repeat NO upgrades from a MS Sidewinder FF2, unless your willing to pay the equivalent of an entire months worth of bills just for a joystick. A friend and I bought a pair in 2004 (used for $125 each) for $250 and 30 in shipping. me and him where flying together earlyer today in BF3. These are 13 years old and i still havent found a better stick. and the only things that come close are stick setups that start around $500. So the Feedback isnt supported. the Return to center works perfect. so they do need to work on the joystick issue.

I can't see much point in force feedback support, it's hard enough to aim your joystick in MWO, let alone when it's fighting against you. That being said, I have a logitech g940, tried the joystick for aiming and didn't like it, so I switched back to the mouse, but kept the throttle for speed and function buttons, and have a pair of pedals for steering, and honestly it is th most immersive mechwarrior experience I have ever had. Plus it is and extremely intuitive and useful way of controlling your mech and all its functions. I would highly recommend this setup if you are able to use it. Now I just need a better gaming mouse, my old one broke and I'm stuck using an old 3 button one.
