Advanced materials used to create artificial muscle

In the BattleTech backstory, scientists created artificial muscles which are capable of incredible strength. This leads to advanced prosthesis for people who had lost limbs, new types of robotic work machines for construction, lumber, mining, and agricultural industries, and of course -- The BattleMech.

Here's one of those sci-fi technologies coming to life!

Yet another thread about this, HUZZAH!
The only thing I am uncertain about is that you need heat to activate the muscle. That sounds like it would be difficult to activate on demand, at least at a battlemech scale. The thought of chemical activation is intriguing, but I'm still not sure how it would be activated at scale. When they get it to act like real muscle (Activated through electrical input) then I will get a lot more excited.
