Except the basic strategy tree I have is entirely reactive. A Leeroy Jenkins would be someone who simply deathballs offensively into the enemy team each game and not being reactive at all.

I guess we should all adopt the elite master race premade strats and tactics to do combat over red boxes, while we run 'synergestic' builds, like ER large laser ravens in combination with XL engine centurions.

Because deathballing in such a small arena, especially now that LRMs are useless, is not more effective.

Pretty much as Krivvan posted.

The simplified tactic is knowing where your enemy is and reacting to that so as to smash them in the best way possible.

Deathballs can be stopped quite easily if you know they're coming and which direction from. Maps have wonderful chokepoints where your entire team can concentrate fire on the one or two enemy mechs who aren't being blocked by their own team-mates.

I told you, that's the basic gameplan I have whenever I'm the one leading a PUG team. It's not a premade strategy. There's a reason why I have ridiculously high w/l ratios when I'm solo pugging.

I'll boil everything down to the simplest possible sentences.

The counter to deathballs is capping. Without the base capture mechanic, deathballs do become the most viable thing to do.

Deathballs are only always the best option if you remove light mechs entirely from the equation.

It also helps that, in PUBs, people tend to get insane tunnel vision and completely ignore the crimson letters screaming "BASE UNDER ATTACK". No, the scouts won't return, the freaking 64 kp/h Hunchback has to waddle back to protect the damn base because no one else will.

Half the time I'm in a light mech so it's easy to deal with personally since I consider light mechs to be the foundation of every team, PUG or not. Whenever I'm not in a light mech I find that the best thing to do is to bring up the Battlegrid and pick out specific names to ask to go back, which also requires you to memorize which people on your team are the light mechs.

What causes the tunnel vision isn't the PUGs not noticing the letters, almost all of them notice it. What really causes it is that they believe someone else is going back to deal with it and that it's not their problem.

This is only anecdotal and I have no evidence beyond some of the pugging videos I've uploaded, but PUG groups actually usually listen to you to an extent. More than enough to go stop a cap at least. If you find too many PUGs are going back to stop a cap, then you join them and call everyone else back to prevent the team from being split, even if it's just a single Jenner or something.

is typical. Even certain premades are too busy redditting to react.

Regardless of the benefit of the doubt, the fact remains that they are NOT reacting. If they are not doing their jobs it means someone else is; and not everyone else being forced to cover for them is going to be capable of doing so.
