Flip a coin, roll some dice, throw some darts, read some I Ching, or consult the great sage that is the Magic 8 Ball.

Figure out role you want to play, then use that to guide your decision.

Buy to your play style. You can do very well in any of them if it matches your play style. The Dragon is probably the most difficult of the bunch to master to though. Hunchback is probably the best bet "out of the box" though because a Jenner, you'll most likely want an expensive XL engine in it. The Hunchback also has more variants than the Jenner so, can have a little more fun getting your skill tiers completed.

It's all up to personal preference.

However, If you asked me, I'd say: jenner then xl300. (or if you have a lot of funds: cicada then xl).

If you wait until Nov 20th, you might just have enough for a cataphract.

Otherwise... I'd say hunchback. Mediums are extremely good at getting kills, and making money. Although I did like the cent more than my hunchback.

I would recommend the jenner since you can't be knocked down at the moment.

Jenner has mobility
Cataphract will have firepower.

Which ever you prefer, both are good.

Jenner is a light mech, thin armor, light armament, but high speed, and smaller target.
Cataphract is a heavy mech, thicker armor, havey armament, doesn't go as fast, and it's considerably bigger.

Take your pick.

I plan on waiting till the 20th patch and just save my c bills in the meantime. They may nerf somethings (Lasers,Gauss etc.)on the build you choose or reinstall Collision damage and knockdowns which will probably make you ill (it would me) if you bought a light mech .spending alot of Cbills this close to patch day there really is no real benefit unless you just have to have it

Patience will reward those who wait at this time

Keep Playing ..save up about 20,000,000 + Cbills and you will be ready to purchase whatever Mech you want Knowing what desicions the Devs have made

I would say Jenner, just because the light mechs are so much harder to kill right now.

Hunchbacks are slow for a medium, which makes them tricky to play without getting killed quickly.

Dragons are fast for a heavy, but their main weapons tend to be in the arms, which makes them tricky to aim.

I'm a Catapult fan, myself, but looking forward to the Cataphract.

This pretty much sums my opinion as well. -4P is good as well and perhaps bit cheaper to maintain. But SP gives xp with both lasers and missiles and is bit more versatile. ST250 as soon as possible for both, then DHS then possibly endo depending on your setup. (if you have extra space)

Jenner is good option as well, but practical requirement of XL-engine makes it bit costly to begin with.

No dragon for 1st mech preferably. It's harder to play effectively than practically any other mech in game.
