I wonder if PGI have considered selling empty chassis rather than preloaded variants?

Example - HunchBack 4H comes load with armour, AC 10, and some medium lasers and an engine for around 3.4 to 3.5 mil C-Bills

Let's say i want that chassis, but i want to load it MY way instead of stock, from the ground up.
I wan to buy just the chassis with nothing in it. I will Then buy the engine, the weapons, the frame (if I want endo or not) until I have it like I want it.

It would actually be MORE expensive to do it this way, depending on what they would charge for the chassis (I am thinking 1.5 mil C-Bills roughly)and how you loaded it, but it would enable you the player to use up some of that inventory that keeps building without taking the the 1/2 price loss if you sell them.

Also, they COULD make it so you can buy empty chassis for MC or MC only...

Thoughts?

I'm sure they considered it, briefly. C-bill sinks are necessary for the f2p model.

It WOULD be a C-Bill sink.
Lets say the cost of an empty chassis was 1/2 the cost of a variant.
Just to add an engine at C-Bill cost puts you at the same or very near the same cost (depending on the engine) to buy a complete variant. Then you have to add weapons and armour and so on. Before long it cost MORE to build it as you want it than to buy one and mod it.

The key is the interest in the Mech bay and trying different things. Each of which has a cost.

Example - many of you have computers you built yourself. Many have a computer that was pre assembled. The cost are roughly the same for equally equipped machines, but you get that satisfaction of building your own.

Some have pre-assembled machines that have been modified (added or changed the CPU, or the graphics card, or a sound card etc). Cheaper way to start, but more costly in the long run to get what you want, except you do it over time.

While your argument is not wrong you seem to forget something:

It would cost less in the end, because people would be using the components they already have to build their mechs (for instance, I only have 2xl and 3 normal engines total which I use in 12 mechs).

However, I would really like to be able to buy empty chassis.

Only for MC.

No, I'm not being an elitist. But it gives people something to spend MC on and hopefully more cash for PGI to stay in business.

I dont see a problem with this (the underlined section). sell me an empty chassis for MC only. PGI still makes money and I get to use some of the stuff that is in my inventory.

Another thing is, I would like to have different load outs on the same chassis without having to change it each time.
Example using the Hunchback 4H. I have already 3 hunchies and have filled my trees. Nothing left but to buy modules for them. I have the 4H model with a Gauss in it. I would LIKE to have one with an AC10 in it as well. So I could buy another Complete Hunch 4H or for (lets say MC only) I could buy the empty chassis and use the AC10 I already have along with some other things in my INV. Now if my group needs a Gauss gun, I have one premade. If they need a AC10, I have one premade and only need to select the one I wish to use.

So PGI makes money on the MC because I have to buy a new Mech bay and on MC only purchase of an empty Hunchback 4H chassis.
