It might be code intensive, but it's something that should have been at or near the top of the priority list from the start.

Indeed. This should have been started a while back.

Can I set my joy stick up in my old MECHWARRIOR SINGLE PLAYER GAME?
Will the on line version rember those settings?
IF NOT, WHY NOT! It would be an easy way to alow us to train up!!

I voted no on the basis that to add these features would divert development effort away from bug fixing and the current dev schedule. It's really not so hard to learn the game and I see no use for a practice area; just drop into a game.

I'd love to see a tutorial course. Set it up as an obstacle course, with a variety of increasingly-difficult maneuvers. Have 3 missions.

First, it'd be in third person. There'd be an announcer-type who'd tell the player what the controls are and then talk him through the obstacle course (accelerating, reversing, turning, looking side to side, etc.).

Second, it'd be first person. It would be otherwise pretty much the same as the first mission, with the commentary adapted to help the player learn to navigate from inside the cockpit.

Third, pop-up targets would be introduced, and the announcer would help with things like setting up firing groups, managing heat, and firing at targets while stationary and while moving (and with both stationary and moving targets).

I'd also love to see a variant of that third mission (without the announcer, but with a timer added) where people could run through it in various builds, so they could test them out before taking them to real matches. Also, they should be able to post times, that they can check out on leaderboards and such.
