Hey. Since Black Friday is upon us I was wondering if PGI will take advantage of the retailer holiday to offer us something special. Anyone from PGI care to comment on?

It's an American thing, where they trample eachother in order to buy cheap stuff, the day after they celebrate being thankful for what they already have.

So the American dream then? Buy more crap we don't need but we feel better about having?

The busiest shopping day of the year.

Merchants/retailers mostly will be in the Red for the year until the Friday after Thanksgiving. Red meaning that they have yet to turn a profit for the year, after Black Friday they will be in the 'black'

Nope. It's just us trampling each other to show how much we care. :)

It's the day after Thanksgiving when American mobs storm shops and beat, stab, and shoot each other for a chance to get cheap junk.

It used to be my most hated day of the year. I say "used to be" because some shops now have their "deals" start at 6AM on Thanksgiving Day!

(There, I said it!!! :))

Hey now, saying that they trample each other is not fair. They taze, mace, and/or shoot each other to be first to buy a TV they can't afford at a reduced price they still can't afford. THEN others trample the victim. Get it straight!

Seriously though, they do this. It's the worst face of consumerism brought to the front, every year.

It's the day after thanksgiving.

It's been labled black friday due to the deaths on the day, mostly story's of people being trampled due to the Rediculious sales going on.

Picture a TV that's usually $2000. On black friday, it may be selling for $600.

It's that kind of thing.

It was called 'Black Friday' long before there were deaths.

Retailers wouldn't advertise their sales as black friday sales if it was associated with death.

It's that day of the year that I stay as FAR AWAY from anything remotely resembling a retail store... don't care what kind of sales take place... flippin' people go crazy that day...

Anyone else remember that security guard that was trampled to death last year after he opened the door and all the people surged in? I think it was in a big shopping mall...

If you ever wanted to see what a zombie apocalypse would look like when they all run in to a mall, just look for videos of Black Friday mobs when the doors open... It's reeeeeeally creepy.

First line correct, explanation of term "black Friday" bogus. It was called Black Friday long before any injuries or deaths, for this reason:

Makes a lot more sense than "Come shop our Fatalities Day sales" now doesn't it? :(

Well, it wasn't my intention to make an Anti-American look at how much thier consumerism sucks thread. I too hate all the ruckus surrounding the "Black Friday" just as much as I hate all of the Christmas ads and sales that start in August. Heck, retails are now calling November Black November and offering sales and specials all month long. Yippee for us.

Black Friday is the day that retailers hope to get out of the Red. The death and destruction part is people being stupid and getting caught up in the marketing hype. Why everyone needs this year's Elmo toy is beyond me. But I'm sure there some business man somewhere basing his level of success on wether someone gets shot over his product or not.

There is one good thing that came out Black Friday. A lot of non-retail dependent companies now give thier employees the Friday after Thanksgiving off. So, for all you folks who called in sick and forced this change in American Corperation practices I am thankful. I'll probably check the online ads but that's about it.

So I was just wondering if PGI would use this self package marketing holiday to do something special for thier consumer base.

What is 'Black Friday'?

A vile tradition, nominally to designate the start of the "christmas shopping season", that is now oozing earlier and starting in some places on the very evening of thanksgiving.

Supposedly it is to allow huge sales on just about everything to desperately boost the flagging american economy during the winter, in practice it is a disgusting orgy dedicated to glorifying conspicuous consumption and corporate greed epitomized by the temples of capitalistic glory that are big box stores and malls. It is simply the clearly de-marked beginning of the atrocious period wherein over entitled Amercians descend on retail stores and put themselves in debt to feed the 1%'s bottom lines all in the name of a co-opted pagan winter celebration nominally about beginning of Christianity, good will, and giving. It incidentally comes with an annual body count and episodes such as people being trampled to death to get into a store the second the doors are unlocked.

So yeah... Black Friday a definition.

also I am American and... uh... Bah Humbug.
