Dread, we don't know if PGI wants to do it at all. It could be IGP deciding for them what features will be in the game.
But what it comes down to for me, as I mentioned in the podcast, I think that PGI has more to worry about with regards to keeping first-time players interested, than a 3rd person mode.
and i 100% Agree with that too!! i just know that when the money starts demanding... steps are taken I unfortunently see it as inevitable ... We should move past the "we don't want it " phase and move on to the "fine whatever if your going to do it than please do it like this so you dont break the game" stage at this point i think they KNOW how the players feel about it and as i said if the "Money" demands it then its something we are just going to have to deal with

NGNG has its own style and goals. Our podcast is for people who are interested in the competitive scene of MWO. This includes how changes in the game will affect competitive play. Our podcast is like other competitive gaming podcasts, it is live streamed, and raw. If we make mistakes, you'll hear them, because we won't just edit it out.
After rereading my post I realize it came off as being prickish. I was going to elaborate but there was a cab in my parkinglot honking for me (early for once) and I had to jet. What I was going to say was a sugestion for smother flow (ie not people talking at once or just dead air, which you had a lot of) and that is for the MC to ask the question and then call for each guest to answer in turn to smooth things out. It's cool if you don't edit but take a que from live radio brodcasts. As far as NGNG goes, while their podcasts are more polished, you guys certainly are less... how to put this... appolgist? That in itself is refreshing. I enjoy both.. though your sound quality leaves something to be desired(and I realise theres probably not much you can do about that.) I hope that clarifies things. Anyway keep it up!
Certainly the RHOD Podcast isn't as polished as it could be yet - we've done a few runs through at this point but we still need to get the rhythm down. Rest assured we're working on the dead air issue - there is a bit of lag with Skype and we have needed to hammer out a few ways to "raise our hands" to speak, if you get what I mean, now that we see there's been a consistent issue with it. We do want to keep the casts conversational though, which is what allows us to keep the raw and candid nature. We feel it's important to be candid and have plain - and, when possible, varied - opinions. You're quite right that we are in no way "apologists". While we do love MWO, and overall we love what PGI has done in rekindling our beloved franchise, we do have thoughts on the progress of the game and especially on the progress of the competitive side of things.
As time goes on we'll have things a bit smoother, more timely, and more streamlined. None of us are professionals in broadcasting, and none of us have done this before really. In the meantime, all we can hope is that y'all will enjoy the content and forgive us the occasional technical foibles.

Hey ohgodtherats (I feel like I should be screaming that lol), thanks for the feedback dude
Unfortunately because we livestream and video the podcast we do run into greater problems compared to if we just did a straight up podcast. We have four people in three different countries from the Middle East to the US using Skype and having that screen captured on xsplit... as you can imagine the technical issues can give me a real headache sometimes and because it's livestreamed and Twitch saves streams in FLV we cannot do any post productions editing.
Why on earth did we decide to do it this way when it results in something that's a little raw? I'll be honest; 1) cos I like the TGS Podcast so that became the basis for what we would try and do 2) because I actually wanted something a little raw; the aim was to engender the idea that we're there on skype discussing the issues of the day and what those issues actually mean for players.
The TGS podcast looks like this btw
I'm actually less inclined to have panelists necessarily speak in turn or be pointedly asked to answer the question; imo I would much rather see panelists just dive in and start answering because again the idea isn't so much for this to be a polished radio broadcast, instead this is four people talking about a game they love, set in a universe they love and a real focus on the competitive action that is going on in game. Hell I'd be happy seeing panelists have an argument on the podcast over differing points of view; now that's passion!
However, there are most certainly things I can do to help improve on the technical side, that will hopefully come as I dive into xsplit and experiment to see how we can improve stuff.
Good points all. I'd like to bring up one. MVP-minimum viable product. Is 3pv fundamental to the launch of the game? Isn't this time before "launch" about getting the MVP done? Where are the maps, game types, matchmaking, controller, and bug fixes? Seriously, isn't PGI putting too many carts ahead of the horse this time? They wasted time on VOIP, called it basic installation, and people flock AWAY from it since people aren't automatically grouped up by it according to who is in what game, etc. It turned out to be be a giant waste of TIME. They keep looking for bigger and bigger bites to take and are starving since all the available and small bits keep falling out of their ever growing and gaping maw. There is so much that is half a$$ implemented that this feels more like a pre-alpha proof of concept than anything that should be in this "so called" stage of development. MVP- get it freaking done already. 3pv isn't part of that. It isn't necessary at this time to make the game function. More game function, less bugs please. That and the whole crisis of credibility part 32 that they seem to follow the standard script of ignoring completely.

The last thread i saw with a poll on this had a resounding 92% votes (consisting of over 2500 individual votes) AGAINST having 3rd person. The community has spoken, I hope PGI listens.
If however they do throw 3rd person into a game billed as a cockpit simulator, well, I'm gonna join my own vocal minority and demand respawning and the ability to casually join or leave a match already in progress. I don't really want them, but, if people are going to be spotting me around blind corners and over hills, I better be able to respawn after they take 2 steps forward and fire off the headshot the lined up without line of sight.

@Insidious Johnson - I certainly think that is the crux of much of the upset; quite aside from the mech sim vs 3rd person shooter argument there is significant upset that development time may (and I deliberately use the term 'may' because we don't yet know for definite that it is) be devoted to this when there are just so many other issues that need to be resolved. Again, I'm am strongly of the opinion that rather than trying to add in too many shiney new features that weren't planned, stick to the core original design brief of MWO and get that to work properly. They will likely see a lot more new players by having a fully fleshed out game than by adding in a last minute 3rd person view when so many issues still need to be resolved. Even in terms of spectator mode for eSports (which I'm wholly in favour of), a simple expression of commitment or even interest would suffice but I would not expect them to start working on that now because other things need to be done first.
@JebusGeist - love the name lol. The core community has spoken, but you do have to remember that they're not looking to implement this for the core community - now I think that is a mistake because right now the core community is who is paying the bills and PGI does risk losing them well before making any new player gains. People don't want to see a return to older MW4 style of gameplay, they want to see MWO as it was planned with some minor tweaks made for weapon balancing etc etc. There are so many better ways to 'indoctrinate' new players rather than trying to panda to them by implementing 3rd person. Oh and most of those casual players, yeah they're unlikely to drop much cash, it's going to be the competitive, long term or 'hard core' players who will most likely spend their money.
