This is not "Our Mechwarrior" that we know and love.

1. Battletech and Mechwarrior were owned/run by FASA and Activision and they did the wonderful games that we know and love Mechwarrior 3050, the Mechwarrior 2 series, and the Mechcommander series.
2. If we have rage, we must focus it upon the demons at Wizkids! Who essentually, uhh. Ran the series into the ground with their "Dark Age"
They screwed many of the designs, effectively made much of the tech in the universe defunct, and tried to get us excited about a new age of war!
But we didn't buy it. We looked skeptically down our collective noses and murmered, "Mmmmm, It looks like there is a new "Mechwarrior series...mmm Yes, quite troublesome it looks like yes... quite"
GOOD FOR YOU!!!
They also tried to redo much of the artwork in the Technical readout guides. Honestly, I have seen the down grade of the Black knight over the years, it went from this....

Uggggggly redesign. So perhaps I have not stated this yet, but thank you loyal Devs for creating a version of Mechwarrior that I can be happy with playing, instead of playing some random garbage on the iphone wishfully thinking about destroying mechs.
AND YOU! To the players and fans of Battletech/Mechwarrior! Thank you for your participation and allowing for things to stay mostly the same in this day and age. The beak on the Raven is too narrow?
Who cares! If you don't like it, destroy it and stomp on it's corpse and shout Icky Icky Icky!
Ahh, the Hunchbacks head is 2% bigger then in the source books?
Let it go. Think of it as a target bonus, makes headshotting those flat-footed, barrel chested, close-quarters death machines easier. GOOD 4 U!
But before we continue to stress about how the Dragon's feet are too small, breathe in.......................
And breathe out. And let's thank the Devs for MAKING THIS HAPPEN!!!!

You know, when I first heard about the time-line PGI had chosen to put this game into, I was reticent, to say the least. However, now that I've had time to study it, and it got me reading Blood of Kerensky, again, and even though I am an extraordinary BattleTech purist and, in general, hate the Clans, I couldn't imagine a better part of the time-line to put a MechWarrior game into.
Of all I've seen and read thus far, I can honestly say that absolutely anything I've taken issue with has been answered by something that makes sense and, typically, remains within the general confines of the BTU, though if it hasn't the resolution developed has made more sense. I can't say that about other MMO properties, of any kind, that I've had the privilege to play in before and, I hope, this game will turn out to be precisely what the PGI devs have said it's going to be.
Nicely done, Vex, and nicely done PGI team.

The second one is rather faithfull to the first. However it certainly isn't an improment. There are much better examples of attempts at actual redesign that are less than stellar

I'm new to this game, except the tabletop version which I played a couple of times a long time ago.
I therefore, do not have memories of how the game used to be, but I would like to play in this universe I have always loved, though I have, through certain circumstances, never been able to play, up untill now.
I remember I played for House Steiner, and I would like to play for them now as well. If anybody can give this rooky some pointers it would be much appreciated. (for example: Which unit is good, which Mechs are decent, House Unit or Mercenary(which ones?) I definitely want to be a Mechwarrior nothing else. "Jeager"

To the people who do not like some of the redesigns, If you have the talent to do better then do so.....
I personaly have no problem with any of the redesigns that have been made. One thing we must take into consideration is that the original designs were made anywhere from 10 to almost 30 years ago with little refrence points. Things will change in that time, maybe for the better maybe not. The only thing that matters is that PGI has created a MASSIVE Sandbox for us to play in and loaded it up with their toys. I for one am looking forward to playing with as many as I can.

MWO looks absolutely great. When I see a MWO 'mech I know which one it is immediately. When I look at the gameplay I see lasers eating away armor, gauss rifle's signature ionization track, missiles tracking correctly. I never look at it and say to myself, oh, that's wrong, because something is a little different.
I mean even looking at the canon images from the lore, they all look different each time they draw the 'mech. I just put it down to a different manufacturer's style. For instance, my favorite Mad Cat is the one from the MechCommander 1 intro, but I accept the other Mad Cat interpretations as completely valid.

As for reboot or whatever, well, we'll see. Reboots aren't always a good thing (See Star Wars), sometimes they are awesome (See Star Trek). Just my opinion and people likely feel strongly in the opposite way. Discourse is good, wether it's a positive opinion or a negative opinion so long as it is written/spoken in a non-hostile manner imho.
I'm still reeling from FFXIV, where the Devs didn't listen to the beta people /at all/. Look what happened there.

Op has it on the head and I'm glad someone with a greater command of the English language than I could post such well written encouragement to the staff of PGI. I'm firmly in the crowd that wants to see MWO be the only game I really play, mostly as I feel that the multiplayer in previous titles in the "series" has been an utter letdown, for varying reasons. I believe that if done correctly, MWO has massive potential in the rapidly growing opportunity that is Competitive Gaming. It remains to be seen if PGI can exploit the business opportunity it presents, but I for one chip in my support, and sincerely wish PGI all the best in elevating MechWarrior to greatness.

Note: the above doesn't mean that I belittle the opinions of those of us who take the time, energy, and enthusiasm to make well thought out, constructive, and informed posts on these forums (after all, I [try] to as well). I'd say a lot of good comes from the members of this forum. I just accept that all feedback has it's worth, and I trust PGI to consider it all properly, and that despite the feedback that I don't like, MWO will still be fun to play.
