Just curious if there would be any mechs, mech variants, or features unique to factions.

In the future there probably will be but for now everything is accessible to everyone AFAIK.

Considering that the art for the Raven had a Davion insignia on it, I'd say this is unlikely.

The Davions have everything. This is well established in canon by now.

If ComStar sudddenly made a SuperInvulnerableUberMech, then the Davions would somehow manage to get their hands on one and make their own. And faster. cheaper and better than ComStar too.

They're the Davions, after all.

well you let this happen
RVN-2X - Many of the Ravens captured by the Federated Suns in the Fourth Succession War were refitted to the 2X standard. It replaces the EW equipment with a Large Laser and raises the armor to 6.5 tons

Do factions have access to unique mechs or weapons? -cobrafive

[BRYAN] No. Prices may vary, but everyone has equal access to items.

It doesn't make sense to restrict some 'Mechs to specific factions - considering the presence of lone wolves and mercenaries.

Oh it makes sense. Not in the very beginning - because most designs exist since the days of the star league. Others were salvage - like Cathepract or Raven my found their way in the lines of Davion after the treachery of St Ives
Other freshly new build units found there way to merc units.

But when the time drive on...it makes sense that some houses get there mechs earlyer

I think the developers would be stretching themselves too thin with this. There aren't going to be a huge number of mechs at release, and restricting them to certain factions would limit player choice even more.

Once they have built up a nice stable of mechs, then maybe this will happen.

The Devs were pretty clear eveyone is going to be able to get every mech (atleast so far as the IS is concerned, clan tech might become another matter, but we'll deal with that hurdle when we come to it.) This is largely an issue of balance and playabilty. It could start to get unbalanced rather quickly if say, we have a time period where a single House gets a lot of new mechs and it's months or even years before other houses get something that fill a similar role.

Heck, from just glancing at the list of cannon fraction specific mechs it becomes clear quite quickly that (atleast at this time period) if you limited the houses like this several of them would have notable lack of any good options for filling certain roles in particular weight classes. You might have a single house start to dominate just because they could produce chassis combinations others didn't have access to... which would ruin the game pretty quickly.

Also... even if the mechs are balanced so each house could do all the needed roles in a balanced way... you'd still have people calling foul 'so and so has a better scout mech than us.' 'It's functionally exactly the same.' 'no it's waaaay better, it's unfair.' it saves a lot of hassel and headache if you can just say... well you can have it too.

I still think that if you Get a Mech the is inherently AFFC and you are fighting for the DCMS there should be a extra cost for repairs and vice versa. But then again the NAIS can pretty much build anything and I would say the same for Luthien Armor works or LAW. the only houses that would be hurt but the in force meant of this would be CC & FRR.

"ComStar transmission incoming

All any Warrior needs is:

1) A Mech
2) A Mean Streak.
3) A Death Wish.

A Warrior has no need for a Heart, unless it is mad of ICE!

End transmission." :(

I hope that the number of mechs will grow to the point where only faction mechs are common among the selection for certain factions.
Mechs from neighboring factions should be available from time to time.

SLDF and Clan mechs should be rare and only available though salvage or as mission rewards (capture the SLDF cach for instance).

And to give the people a clue of what to expect if we ever get faction mechs (from Era Report 3052):

DC and FRR:
- Light: Commando, Spider, Locust, Panther, Jenner, Wasp, Mongoose
- Medium: Kintaro, Whitworth, Phoenix Hawk, Wolverine, Sentinel, Wolf Trap, Griffin, Crab, Dervish
- Heavy: Grasshopper, Archer, Quickdraw, Jagermech, Marauder, Dragon, Grand Dragon, Crusader
- Assault: Battlemaster, Mauler, Hatamoto Chi, Victor, Atlas, Katana, Charger Cyclops

FC
- Light: Firestarter, Javelin, Wasp, Stinger, Wolfhound, Commando, Valkyrie, Locust
- Medium: Vulcan, Griffin, Wolverine, Blackjack, Whitworth, Enforcer, Hatchetman, Centurion, Dervish, Phoenix Hawk
- Heavy: Thunderbolt, Rifleman, Axman, Cataphract/Caesar, Jagermech, Marauder, Crusader, Warhammer, Archer
- Assault: Marauder II, Battlemaster, Awesome, Stalker, Victor, Zeus, Atlas, Banshee, Cyclops

Just to give people a idea of what could be.
