I am sorry but minimum range simply does not make sense what so ever... It barely makes sense in the PPC. Maybe in a more esoteric table top game it worked but not in a major first person shooter.

I like what they have planned so far and I am already running to the mech lab to figure out how to put CASE in my Gauss carrying mechs

Min-range for a Gauss is the distance the round carries it's casing on the shot before it separates.

Cut Gauss damage in half inside 60m, much like PPC damage drops off from 90 -> 0m, as the resulting impact is less effective. Voila.

In any case, we're not seeing knockdown from AC/20 fire. Chainstunning is bad, mmkay?

Weird thing is AC/2 seems to have bigger impact than an AC/20 and the AC/2 has a faster fire rate

aerodynamically formed projectile. its how gauss works, it makes lots and lots of sence from a physics point of view. the penetrator will do much more damage at range tham at point blank.

why you ask, its easy, when the penetrator leaves the gauss barrel, its about 8 inches long, when it reaches its target over 2 km away its about 4 feet long and shaped like a perfect cone with a tip that is 1 molecule when it leaves the barrel its tip is about 1000x more surface area.

what does more surface area mean on impact, less damage. less concentration of force.

just because its going as fast as it is later, doesnt mean it will do the same damage, its has the same energy, but what it does with that energy is just as important.

Guys, Just stop. Seriously please.
The Gauss Rifle is the only weapon in the game that is working as it should. LRMs are right behind it. The Gauss made the AC20 obsolite 25 years ago. The AC20 should still hit a bit harder, but its lack of range and heat are what they are. If it's allowed to hit it is an armor smashing monster, but the Gauss only gives up a pinch of power, for monster range, cool running, and better ammo. Also when we start facing the clans it is the only weapon on par with Clan Tech. I don't want my only equalizer nerfed cause of short sighted over reactions.

Vapor Trail and I may have different opinions on this. I think he works now on the perspective that the DEvs simply want our mechs to overheat within 10-20 seconds with an effective build, and that consequently, most weapons are working reasonably within those constrains - but the Gauss is an outlier that needs to be changed in some way to compensate accordingly. It can deliver the same DPS as a weapon that will overheat you within 10-20 seconds - so if it's stick is to remain that it's cool, than it's ROF may need to be lowered to reduce its damage output.

As I said, I don't entirely agree here. I think stock mechs need to work better and last longer than they do now, and this won't be achieved by nerfing the Gauss Rifle. It also needs to go away from PGIs "Rapid OVerheating" approach to weapons. With one caveat: We have to realize that individual engagemenets within a match may take 5-25 seconds and not much more - so we may need to have a sharp focus on what is happening within 5-25 seconds and balance weapons within this time frame - if a PPC is vastly hotter after that timeframe it's of limited relevance.
