I love Battletech/Mechwarrior and I want this game to be successful. ;)

However, I have a fear that they are advertising it too hard right now, while it is still in its "unfinished" state. I see ads for MWO all over the place, on Facebook, gaming sites, etc...

I am scared that people may come and play the game now, and decide, "meh" and then not try it again later.

The point is, I would hate for the really cool stuff that is supposed to come later, to get canceled, because interest in the game has already gone away, since they built it up too much in the early stages (I hope I am making sense) :D

There is a simple reason to why you might see a large amount of mechwarrior online advertisements on the internet.

The internet is stalking you.

Facebook most likely knows you play video games/post about video games/follow video games on facebook, then there is google and googles advertising department that stalk everyone who has ever used their search engine or any web page connected to it.

It's simple. Ads go up, people come in and spend money, people become disappointed in their purchase, PGI points to the word "beta".

i agree. almost each ad i see is either Lego chima, mechwarrior online, mechwarrior Tacitis, or something else. yet none of my friends play this game. Also some ads arn't correct. for example, the ad with the catapract is machineguning an ac5.

*cough* Cookies on your computer allow other websites to see websites you visit. MWO pays facebook and google and yahoo to put MWO ads on your facebook page because you have been to the MWO website. If you went to Gramma's House of Yarn.com a lot and Gramma buys ad time with Facebook, you will get "Yarn now 20% off at Gramma's House of Yarn!" ads. They are not blasting stompy robots on every pre-teen's facebook page. They are not blasting stompy robot ads on your Aunt Claire's facebook either. It's just focused advertising.

Its a fairly expensive way to advertise. If I click on their links to visit MWO, it costs them hard cash -- and they already got me as a customer.

Haven't seen a single ad for MWO besides the ingame billboards in River City that they removed a while a go.

People browse the internet without Ad-Block?

I don't mind seeing ads actually. Some are occasionally useful even. :-)

Interwebsciencemagic used to advertise a game to you that you already play thats why you know about it and follow it and thats why it gets advertised again so you can find out about a game you already know like sciencemagic new economy stuff.

Interestingly enough its somewhat difficult to link to a particular ad as the ads are generated dynamically on whatever page you land on that has an ad-space contract with a provider like google ads. Facebook almost always has an MWO ad scrolling by for me for instance.

Considering I don't visit any site that does ads, I see MW:O ads every, single, web page.

Sometimes 5 in one page, dunno why, but it's there. Telling me, to play.

Or just hop on the forums to see if any devs posted anything. Other than Happy Birthday Helmer.

TL;DR, people don't understand how Google ads work.

hehe, this post wasn't really supposed to focus on the ads themselves... :D

The point I was trying to make is all games loose their audience after it has been out for a while, so I worry this game is not going to have anyone left to play it when the cool start stuff starts to happen, Clans, etc..

They are pushing it too hard right now, when there is still so much more that is supposed to come later.
