Could the random fps bug be related? how many other bugs could be related to any of the hacks or ways people find to game the system?
Thoughts or facts anyone?

I must be playing with some awesome hacks straight out of PGI's office, then!
Seriously, I did no manual tampering of any CFG files and I get the 4 fps bug now and then.

No and none.
FPS bug = memory leak.
Many other bugs: Lack of optimized shaders.
In-game crash bug: Sound related bug, probably missile-associated.
All "hacks" that you're worried about are client-side, not server side. The abject terror some people try to provoke around this subject is unwarranted.

The main component of the only hacks you see for this game is essentially a glorified virtual hand moving your mouse. It doesn't involve messing with the files much at all.

Essentially this. Closing this before someone starts to post hack links, we wouldn't want that.
No, nobody really did anything wrong yet, this is just a prophylactic measure!
