I've crused around idlely around the forum and everyone thinks the best mechs are ones with Jump Jets. Well unless jump jets work like they did in mech warrior 2, all your going to do is turn yourself into a clay pigeon by jumping around if they work like they did in mech warrior 4.

So please waste tonnage on Jump Jets and leap into the air and i'll have the extra guns from not getting jump jets waiting for you when you land to lite you up ^.^

As with everything, jump jets will take intelligence to use correctly and have various uses. In battle, you may see a person use jump jets to fly over you, but you may not be able to turn around fast enough to do as you say and shoot them while they are landing, especially if they had just come out of cover so you noticed them with high forward throttle on. They also may be jumping over a hill so you won't even see where they land. And speaking of hills, jump jets may help a scout get a look over one to get vital info back to the team quickly. On some levels they may even help them get on top of buildings where other mechs can't go for a bit of safety and optimal viewpoints.

I plan to play as scout so I will take my jump jets quite seriously, thank you very much.

In MW2, I would put jumpjets on Assault mechs. You can't "fly" much, but it was good for getting out of the way quickly.

I used the jumpjets on my catapult to fire over a mountain in front of me (without jump, the rockets would have crashed into the stone). Just hold it a few seconds until you are high enough, then fire whatever you have, and then land again, with the enemy not being able to hit you. Works pretty good, because you are visible for only a second or two.

Keep in mind, this isn't a Beta thread, so keep the talk about the beta to a minimum.

I seriously doubt they didn't expect this though...
Half the forum-population getting access at the same time.
If it was still as strict as it used to be, we'd be down to only a quarter still having access to the beta lol

From what I've seen you can steer while using jump jets. In MW4 they were pretty unused by me because you did feel like a clay pigeon. But.. Then again that's a risk you have to take like shedding armour off places for more or bigger weapons.

I'm going to be a scout and be using the Jenner ( if I can from the start ) and I'll be using the jump sets from time to time to assess the situation at hand to relay back to team mates and to jump to harder to reach places or to simply use to avoid being shot at for a whole 5 seconds or less.

They can be use as a good tactic to get around but I agree with some posters here, they are going to take some brains and strategy to use to its full capabilities.

Edit: everyone hates a pop tart

Jump jets are good on only two 'Mechs, pop tarts, and Summoners (just ask Natasha Kerensky:)). Getting on top of buildings is not useful, since they can still see you and shoot at you, in fact, even better since there are no buildings in the way.

All I can say is:

- Don't condemn them without ever having played the game.

and

- Don't believe they are the best that can happen to you without ever having played the game.

Anything else would breach the NDA I have agreed to. Trust in the beta testers and, more importantly, the devs to give every bit of equipment its use and every mech its place on the battlefield.

Everything in that video was obviously staged. You can see the heavier 'Mechs deliberately miss the Jenner.
OP is right, waste tonnage on JJ if you will, but I will take my additional heat sinks.

And you just breached NDA by saying you signed an NDA, smooth move.

I loved the video of an old Mech game when a mech jumped and the opponent blowed one leg of it away and it begun to tumble and roll mid-air crashing into a building.
JJs make Mechs overcome obstacles or jump out of danger or into the back of an enemy but Mechs be not Helicopters.

Bieng part of the beta is no longer a breach of the NDA. Watch this:

I'm currently playing the beta for MWO right now.

Report me, because I've breached the NDA right? Hardly. 100% of founders are in beta, so guess what, your in the beta. Surprise! <_<

First of, the Cat deliberately missing is quite obvious. but that doesn't have anything to do with the JJs, now does it?
Maybe the whole thing is staged, maybe the mechs the Jenner gets to take out already where heavily damaged so those 4medlas would be enough for a finishing blow. However, fact of the matter is, the movement displayed in the vid (including the JJs) is the "real" movement you get ingame, isn't it?
That said, it quite accurately displays what kind of movement you're capable of, when your mech does have JJs, what you make of that and how you use it is up to you.

Luckily I'll be able to decide for my self if those JJs are worth the cost or not.

Jump Jets =/= Clay Pidgeon unless most Mech weapons act like shotguns.

(Hint: they don't.)

unless your flying opponent is an assault mech or a heavy mech its most certainly not easy to hit a jump jetting enemy mostly due to the fact that they keep there running velocity when jump jetting and then theres the ascent or descent to factor in depending on when you notice them jumping. and even then the only weapons that will give you a decent chance of hitting is an lbx auto cannon or missles but if the jumping mech is a spider odds are you dont have a prayer of hitting best to wait for it to touch down before opening fire.

*shrugs* think what you will. right now you guys only face a handful of people who may not have the most gunning experence in MW. Wait for the game to go live and you get some real gunners in the game. you'll learn real fast how much fun pop tarting will be. There was a reason JJ's was rarely used in the bigger mechs in mech 3 and 4.
