I'm quite certain that this has bee covered but I'm taking the easy way out.

I've unlocked all of the basic tech tree for one variant of the the Commando and it's not letting me unlock the Elite section for that variant.

Do I really have to grind through all of the other variants of this mech? Or is there something that I'm missing?

Thanks!

Yes, you need to grind through two more variants. It wouldn't be such bad news if the efficiency trees were a bit more varied or interesting, but that is yet another feature than isn't quite fully polished at this point.

Yes. You have to. (Actually, you need to do 3. 4 is not required).

F#ck! Are you kidding me?

I've been having a lot of fun with the Commando, but seriously, I'd really like to kill a mech without having to have it pre-sundered.

I appreciate the fact that this is a FTP game, but come on, there's got to be a way to opt out of the grind. No, I don't advocate pay-to -win, but I've invested quite a lot of time into this! Now I have to buy a new mech and start all over from basic? What about my experience from other mechs? (I know it's not transferable but maybe it should be...)

Just vexed.

Thanks for the reply's!

Cheers all!

John

Buy some MC and buy a mech...simple really, if you do not like the grind pay to bypass it a bit.
Also you can transfer xp to gxp just costs you MC.

Premium players have to go through basically the same grind. I say basically because we do get a small xp bonus, and we can buy additional variants with MC instead of c-bills, but we do still have to unlock 3 variants. Its... well, its another system that is a work in progress.

Oh, and don't ever think that you will have a mech that makes it easy for you to solo anyone. Always think in terms of focused-fire, even Atlai need support.

What he said.
I'm a founder and I had to play games on all of my hunchbacks to get them to master.
You never know, one of the variants of hunch I tried I hated at first, then came to like it after a bit of fiddling.

there's also absolutely no requirement to unlock elites; if you'd rather go on to a heavier mech without doing elites on your commando that's perfectly fine as well

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that I expected to solo another mech. That takes skill, something that I'm still developing (as anyone who's been on the same team as me can attest to...)

Just frustrated with the grind. Why can't I unlock a tech skill tree for the variant that I've been running for so very long instead of having to grind away at all of the variants?

For now it is what it is. This game tauts role specialization, and I'd really like to do that. But if I have to unlock every variant of a mech just to specialize the one variant that I've "trained" in, well, that's a bit frustrating, yeah?

Dasht just forget about the grind and play one mech then, choose your fave and stomp about with that.
People need to enjoy playing and forget the grind.

It's part the grind that's pretty much mandatory in any long-term multiplayer game, part encouragement to try the other variants, and part encouragement to buy MC and convert the XP on the mech you want to pilot into GXP to level the mechs you don't (which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive to ever do).

You are not going to notice much difference with the elite upgrades on a commando. The speed buff is probably only one you will like and even that isn't ground breaking.

Also your attitude that you don't want to pay any real money but also want to skip grinding is really dumb. Take a look at what you are saying. If you want to keep it free, you must put in the extra effort. Hating on the game or its developers for asking money is dumb, they need to make a living from this f2p game.

There is a way to "opt Out" of the grind... buy MC... and play the mech you like, then convert that EXP from the mech you like to GXP which can be spent on any mech.

Thanks Boymonkey. I know that you're spot on. I think that I'm failing to articulate something that may have a direct bering to posts about new users not opting in.

I, for one, dig the hell out of this game! It's not the MW that I've played before and, frankly, maybe that's a good thing.

But the bottom line is that I've been having fun. What I wish is that I didn't keep looking at the "power-ups" and how to attain them.

Anyone need a spotter for a team?

Boy are my posts slow!

Lot's of replys before i've posted mine. Sorry...

Thank you all! And I hope that some of my gripes and your replys will bolster others who are in a similiar frame of mind.

I want to see this game a success. As I said, I'm having a great time just stomping around and doing what I can for my team. And, really, this is the first online game that I've played in years. (The first was, oddly enough, MW on AOL back in the early '90s...)

Anyway, thank you for all of your replys and I look forward to seeing you all in my crosshairs!
