If this is implemented players can have a nice array of immersive features that come with it.
- The players can have their favorite tunes playing while going into battle. Fun.
- Most importantly, the music fade can out, play static and stutter as the mech takes missles to the face. Immersion.
- Incoming messages (We have the enemy flag!) and Voice chat (if available) can Interrupt or temporarily muffle our music. Immersion.
- The thought of clashing sounds of bleeps bloops booms both inside and outside the cockpit clashing with my personalized soundtrack makes me want to have an eargasm. Immersioooooooon.
- If there's an actual eject system like in the trailers the sound of the air breezing around our heads ears and the echoing of distant explosions make a nice contrast to our battle themes and give a feeling of dread as things quiet down and our battlemech bites the dust a kilometers or two under our feet. Immersion.
- I'll be able to make use of a few more buttons on my flight stick.
All that this would require on your end is a bit of simple coding -
-Read tracks from a "User music" folder inside your MWO install folder. (customizable path)
-Organize said tracks into a playlist and have 3 different play options - random, repeat, default
-Small UI with volume control and clickable buttons on the ESC menu. (+keybinding options for in game control)
Simple, yes? Fun feature? Helps Immersion and overal feel of the game? To me it sounds like an amazing and simple to implement thigimajig. A second Idea I had is to actually have the MP3 player support internet radios. Not only will this let people listen to radio stations - but will cause the spawn of community and merc/lance group driven content to no end. Imagine fan made and MWO themed radio stations pop up everywhere. Official radios, faction radios, entire battlegrounds listening to that big tourney while they play their pub games. Fun stuff.
This is my first post on the forums, as I've just learned of the game yesterday. Hope you guys like some of the ideas I've been swinging around here. See you on the battlefield!
