In preparation for the cataphract update next week, I wanted to check if jump jets have become modular (per JJ slot) or still "all or none" requiring just one JJ unit to purchase?

My Jenner only has one JJ and can clear mountains fine, I'm pretty sure extra JJs just provide more fuel if that.

Just 1 JJ will give the same effect as though you had your mech completely loaded with them. They're not working properly.

As a Jenner pilot, will you still use the mech when you have to use 5 tons to get the same jump effect as you do now?

I don't understand why they have left the JJ issue alone since the game was released in closed beta.

I asked the same thing and pretty much wondered the same thing as you. It's not even mentioned in their "Known Issues" thread.

I'd probably strip out the jet and go without since I don't use it that often. The alternative would be to drop from 6 medium lasers to lights and strip a heatsink or two. But then how would I make Assault pilots regret their purchases?

If you can't make people regret their purchases with 6 SL, you're doing it wrong. The 6 SL 130kp/h Jenner is one of the scariest mechs in the game, even without lag shielding.

I find that JJs are more useful for getting out of trouble than anything else.

Just to be clear the light JJs that the Jenner and Raven use are only .5tons each not 1ton like the JJs for heavies.

Are you kidding me?!?! That 6 SL jenner is one of the worst. Everyone knows the best jenner is the founder's D.

Hardly. The F is absolutely the best variant, and the 6 smalls were the most powerful build you could have prior to DHS. It's still a great build, and runs nice and cool now, but I've moved on to mediums with the current heat sink model.

The reason lots of people like the D is for the streaks, but once you get the hang of using lasers properly you can do better in an F.

Let's have a duel of Jenners to settle this argument. I'll be with my D, you'll be with your F. Meet me at caustic. :o

A PGI Spokesperson recently released a statement about the issue. Hope this clears up any confusion.

Jump jets have been a placeholder mechanic for a very long time now. Sure, they do need to be fixed, but they are hardly the most pressing issue the game has right now.

I like to use the regular SRM4 in my Jen D now. Higher Damage, and I have to aim them manually, but it works good on taking down bigger mechs as a lower heat 10 damage burst in a hit and run attack. Also, all my dogfights with lights seem to end up with me on the other lights tail nearly overheated chain firing my medium lasers whether I'm in a D or F anyways, so it doesnt matter if I have 4 or 6. I can't really say one is definitively better, therefore Founders Jen money bonus wins.

As for jumpjets they should just make 2 or more needed to get off the ground with a duration about half what it is now with each additional jumpjet providing more duration. Seems simple enough to fix, not sure why it's so badly broken.

It's not a question of if, it's a question of how fast. The sooner I core someone the sooner I can move to harassing someone else. JJs are nice but I play plenty of mechs without them so I'm not that dependent on the kit.

Gladly. The small laser build shines on Caustic - even moreso now with DHS. Even before DHS it was a more heat-efficient build than the streaks.

While I'm not throwing these down as definitive proof that the F is better than the D by any means, as there's also pilot skill to consider, we've actually had a D vs. F fight in one of our Trials of Position. I do hope that after seeing it you'll drop your claim that the 6 small laser F is one of the 'worst' builds.

The most telling match is the second one, which turns into a legging battle - precisely the wrong kind of a fight for Streaks which can't be forced to target the legs.

These are pre-upgrade Jenners - no DHS, and running when collisions were still enabled.

And without question the 6 smalls were better than 6 meds pre-DHS.

I use the proper amount of jump jets.

I use four in my jenner and catapult. That is how many I will use when they fix them. And its per TT rules.

Just a heads up; only the TT players know what a "munchkin" is. Everyone else has to look it up.
