I've noticed that if I override two or more times in a row, often my mech will die with the internal structure in the head or ct gone. However, I haven't seen any info on this mechanic.

Anybody got an info beyond the obvious, don't overheat? ;)

Your engine can meltdown if you build up too much heat. The automatic shutdown is there to prevent this, but overriding it and proceeding to build up even more heat can cause you engine to explode.

Yes this is an Ammo Explosion. Basically your ammo got too hot and started cooking off.

This is also supposed to happen to some weapons but I have no idea if this is in yet.

A similar effect can occur if your ammo gets critted.

The only mitigation for these effects is CASE, which vents the explosion out of your mech.

Ammo explosions and engine melt downs don't make sense when it's the head that's getting blown off.

Could be that the damage spread to the head. I think in general you might just be suffering critical hits from overheating and some of them got randomized to the head slots.

Overheat damage is random. Yes, this can mean you melt to death in your cockpit, or explode your own ammo, or burn out the engine.

That's why you don't normally do it. Overrides mean the 'Mech WILL take damage if it's any significant amount of heat over minimal auto-shutdown, and that can kill. Often.

The head has a life support module and a cockpit module in it. If either of these is destroyed by overheating, you die.
