77/188 - my kill death ratio (it used to be even worst than that)

I have loved Battletech/Mechwarrior since the late 1980s, and this game seemed like a dream come true... I hate I suck so badly! :o

I have to drive a heavy or assult because my frames are only about 15 - 20 fps, so I gota take it slow; and it never fails that a fast little sucker will run around me like a gnat, and I'll be the first one dead on my team nearly every game!

I am not part of a team, nor have have voice chat or anything. But can anyone give me some advice for a loner who only plays in pick up groups?
thanks!

Hmm thats a tough situation to give advice on.
Since its a PUG, you never really know your teams tactics, that is if they decide to use any at all, or just decide to run out and square dance in circles with each other for 10 minutes.

You could try hiding, using cover..but that wouldnt help if a small guy found you, without a another small/med on your team to harrass him near you.

Thats one of the problems of playing a assault in PUG, you are at the whim of the lights on your team.
They can run out and engage, and run back to you IF they feel like it to do interference, but you cannot run back to them to get interference if you need it. Even if you do make it back to them..they sometimes are oblivious you need help and just skirt off leaving you alone once you slowly make it back to them.

Best I can suggest, is either try to stick with 1-2 teammates for safety in numbers and play it by ear. OR make a friend in a light like me, that enjoys playing by being going out, finding targets for the big guys, then being the gnat that follows that big guy around to harass people that want to bother him.

That frame rate is harsh, I get only about 20-30 tops and know that it is costing me kills. If you are getting 15-20, I can't think of any other advice besides "upgrade your rig," or hope that they iron out some of the performance issues in the client.

Try a more balanced mech. Cat-C1 w/ 2xPPC, 2xMPL, 2xSsrm2. Against targets >90m, use the 2 PPCs. Against your pests...the MPL + Ssrm wil help a lot.

Teamwork on voice coms will help more,

I have this problem also when I use a Assult. When I am in a group we are together and they have my back. I know when I take my atlas in pugs, most of the time the faster guys just take off and leave me behind. Try a smaller mech... if you dont then I guess you will have to join up or just try to deal with lites.

Turn down your graphics settings if you can.

To be perfectly honest your k/d ratio isn't too bad for a PUG only player, especially one sticking to slower weight classes. There's no simple fix, but some options might be:
1) Reconsider your in game tactics, an Assault should never be alone, it's best to stick with at least one or two allies at all times.
2) Reconsider your builds. If light mechs are the bane of your existence you should try to make room for SSRM and pulse lasers. Pulse lasers are much easier to damage light mechs with due to the shorter beam durations. Consider prioritizing small/medium lasers in your arms, hitting a light with your torso just isn't a thing.
3) It's dangerous to go alone, jump on the team speak channel, even without a microphone you can still find a group. It's not everyone's cup of tea (I prefer to PUG), but it does make the game a lot less hit and miss.

With low FPS? Easiest solution is to stick to weapons that don't require a high FPS to use effectively.

LRMs, SSRMs, anything that locks on and takes the nuance work out of aiming should do the trick.

-Streaks, LRMs, Large Lasers

-Do what you can to improve your framerate by toning down settings and cleaning up / upgrading your machine.

-Stick with your team

-Stick with your team

-Stick with your team

-Stick with your team

and so forth.

K/D don't mean much, how's your Win/Loss?

Personally, I find Assaults very very hard to play.

No worries dude, my k/d ratio started improving when I found a mech that suited my style. don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.

You should be more concerned with balance and content right now honestly. When we can actually capture planets and stuff too, your k/d won't mean much.

Perhaps you could ask for someone to watch your back at the beginning of each match. I rarely pug so I don't know how often it would work, but it can't hurt.

By the way, don't be afraid to join a team. If you really don't want to then that's your business, but they aren't all uptight power-gamers.

you got to love worthless posts like this one....

hey nitwit... maybe not all of us have 8 real life friends that actually like MWO or any battletech games for that matter... or ROBOTS alltogeather for that matter...

what do the rest of us do who have no online or IRL friends that can team up with in this game and play premades?

the answer is simple... we cant do anything..... we are forced to pug for the remainder of this game's life time, and its downright cheating and unfair that we have to suffer premades who try to farm c bills and xp by crushing pugs who dont even have any way to comunicate. its pathetic.... premades should only face other premades...

try to think before you post and stop trying to post worthless posts just to increase your count thx

With a heavy or assault you will be one of the primary targets, as well as your repair cost will be higher (as noted from some of your other threads).

And have you sought advise concerning tweaking your system?

As for TS or such, yes, there are better ways to approach such things from both sides of the coin. Yes, on TS and C3/etc friendships can be developed, or without their use. Many of the people I know who are playing I have known since 1996. Some I have even met at a few of the GENcons I have attended.

What should be said is that people need to develop their social networking, be it online for game like this or even in real life. It takes a village to raise a child, unfortunately nowadays that does not happen as often as it should, which is one of the first steps, imho, to social networking.

It takes all kinds but countering it work/family/kids, what are you doing to develop that type of connections for yourself and your family, or is there a deadzone around them?

Some of the good things about the internet (we all know lots of bad things) is that it allows you to connect with people, who may not be locally close to you, who have similar interests in other parts of the world.

To each their own, especially those with blinders, unfortunately.

This reply to that post is utterly worthless and irredeemably negative.

Well, take the time to make some new pals, I have and it's been fantastic.

Well, that's easily solved. Get on one of the many free Ts servers advertised and say hi to a few other players. You will inevitably run into some idiots, but the vast majority are regular folk enjoying a good game and some light banter.

Really? Really? Try to think before you post. There are a multitude of ways for pugs to group up, you just need to take a minute to look at the stickies. There are also plenty of regiments and merc groups that are willing to take on new players and help them along. Is it perfect? No, but there are plenty of ways to get on with this game.

To the OP, have a look and see if you can drop your settings. Also make sure you are upto date with your drivers etc. apply to some merc groups, if you want to and have a look at the demon pre-mades from the other side
