Says the one who believes the current stats are a useful indicator of player skill.

And explained why as well...yet some would chose to remain ignorant :)

the current stats are as close to meaningless as they can be. damage and kills are kinda something, but not the whole story.

Yeah, I agree.

I think separate stats for premade v premade and pug v pug would help a lot.

Then another stats wipe after collisions are put back in.

And then loads of detailed stats on a per mech-variant level with details for every weapon.

Along with who and what they've been hit by and where.

So we can get an idea of what kind of lame funny-business a player has been up to in order to stat-pad.

But it still won't show how they let teammates die in order to get a higher KDR. Which incidentally has been going on in front of me since the CS beta days. So it's not just about these nicely accessible public records of stats. It's just that the behaviour is encouraged when more epeen is attached to it. So like war brings out the murderer in everyone, stats bring out the devious coward.

You talk about a logical fallacy and then you offer a generalization like this. I personally don't use stats to brag about to anyone. I use them as a measuring stick about personal progress. As such, the more detailed the stats, the better. Heck, add some team stats too while we're at it.

Honestly, trying to dictate or define how people are going to use INFORMATION about game performance is arrogance of the highest order. I find it absolutely ironic that these are the very same people screaming "elitist" because they themselves are being elitist by pretending they know better than everyone else how they are or should be using information about their in-game performance. And I have yet to hear anyone offer any evidence of a game that doesn't have stats/combat logs/whatever that is somehow less elitist or self-centered than a game that has them. News flash: a lot of people suck. Many are self-centered jerks. You're not going to change that by showing them how they did in a match.

you are referring to personal stats and I was referring to public stats. I have no problem with personal stats but thats not what we are talking about. And I don't need stats to know how bad/good I am. I can determine that by how I'm playing.

And I love how people like you go off on the...you're wrong cause your trying to dictate......Bull. I was stating my opinion and I've seen it through many different games first hand so I'll generalize as I please.

Getting the killing shot on a mech means squat for piloting, especially with the stupid builds you can put together with broken critical slots and point of site click-n-kill right now. What matters is, are you having fun and does your team continue to win at a very high rate.

the OP's take on public stat boards is utter doodie..

Again, I stated in my OP that K/D is a BAD public leaderboard stat

And of course, before making stats go public: disconnecting before a death should still count as a death for you and a kill for your killer. This is essential.

Agree with this and would like to see greater punishment for people that dc right before they esplode.

Myself and some others on this thread have pointed out that we've seen our deaths uptick after a d/c. Also, I've killed players who have d/c'd and gotten a kill for it.

To get the official word on this behavior I emailed support, and it turns out while d/c'ing may save you from racking up a death, it is not guaranteed to work:

Currently, if you are killed after disconnecting from a match will that
count towards your deaths and the other player's kills?
Thanks

Hello SamizdatCowboy,
It will not count, normally. There are some cases where depending on when the disconnect happened, it'll count.

So just an FYI that it's not correct to say dc'ing always prevents a death... and in fact the logic may actually already be correct: i.e. an early disconnect probably shouldn't count as a death, but a discon in the middle of a match probably should...
