Not sure if this will be of any use to anyone in here - I made it to help some new players I know get into the game. It goes through the mechlab and "shell" of the game with the aim of getting new players up to speed on what can be a daunting game to play when you first take part.

At the end is a potted history of the IS I added to try to give new players a taste of the depth of the whole BTech universe.

The eagle-eyed will note the DHS error as well.

Second tutorial will cover the actual game, and how to work as a team player.

Constructive comments welcome

That's a very informative video. Well done on the amount of instruction you've given.

I might suggest that you break it up a bit. Half an hour is a long time to watch what is essentially a dude talking while clicking a mouse around a menu. Maybe separate it into 5-10 minute chunks focused around different areas of the UI.

Also, for an instructional piece, you have a LOT of superfluous chatter going on. Your personal preferences, trains of thought, things like that. While this might be good for some players, it can make it hard to focus on what is actually instruction as opposed to what is just going on in your head at the time.

Speaking of what's going on in your head, most of this comes across with an 'improvised' impression. It feels like you're just clicking through the UI and explaining things as you go without much of a plan.

What all of this leads to (and this is my own personal opinion and is likely going to come across as overly blunt), is that it's a bit boring. It needs to be spiced up a bit with some music, transitions or video clips. I know that a menu isn't an overly exciting thing to be explaining, but I personally struggled to stay interested after the 10 minute mark.

Sorry if I was too harsh, but you did ask for constructive criticism. Overall, it's a good instructional video, if a bit dull.

No, that's actually pretty good feedback, and right on the money as well. Historically a lot of my vids have been opinion pieces, which is why I've picked up the habit of adding in non-essential material "around" the main discussion. I'll work on removing that for tuts ;)

Cheers for the feedback!

Taking the feedback on board (I hope) I've posted up the second tut. Would appreciate any constructive feedback as well:
