Hey guys, I'm running an Atlas RS right now with 4 large lasers and an LRM 15 + gausse rifle for the long range. I also accidentially got the double heatsink upgrade, which seems like a bad idea (Thought they were only taking 2 slots, not 3). I also upgraded my structure to endo steel for some much needed tonnage. Still got the standard 300 engine.
Now I'm wondering if I should go full on close range. In other words, get the standard engine 325 with 3 heat sink slots and just drop the LRM 15 missiles so I can get the armor upgrade.
Good idea or bad? It's a big investment so I need some advice .

for RS and D,
I usually run:
4 ML
AC20+3ton
2 SRM6+2ton
Standard 300
untouched armor
AMS+1Ton
25(I think) SHS
Been my only atlas build since CB; use the 4ML as primary weapon and AC20+dual SRM6 for the 1-2 KO punch. Pretty manageable heat even if you don't chain fire the ML or SRM6. The (dis)advantage, depends on how you look at it, is that all of your weapons optimal range are in 270M. That, and of course, the AC20's slow projectile speed coupled with Fatlas' slow turning speed makes it somewhat of a challenge to engage faster targets.
Oh and you will probably have to downgrade back to normal structure.

Depends on how much you rely on the LRM for damage; if you usually leave a match with most of your ammo intact, drop it and get the engine. If you empty your ammo and consistently hit things, keep the LRM and stay back at range.
If you want to go full toe-to-toe brawler, I'd keep the gauss (or go to an AC/10 or so) but switch to MLasers, and load out the missile HP with SRMS. The engine upgrade would probably be ok for closing distances there, but I wouldn't simply drop the LRMs and expect to go front-line; if you want to snipe or just deal death from a distance, the loadout is pretty good.
