Just once I want to see a game attempt to make the super guns sound realistic. Lasers should sound like pure burning (since they are powerful enough to be not just visible, but totally opaque in the air) I cant even describe how loud one of these things would be, you would feel intense heat on your face and wind pulling you toward the beam if at all near these things.
For context a lightning bolt does what the lasers do in mechwarrior for a fraction of a second to the air. Imagine something as powerful or more so that lasted for a full second. THAT would make lasers feel impactful, and powerful.
(good stuff at 12 seconds)
Imagine that level of sound, but for a full second. The lasers in MWO souldnt go pew, they should go KRAKRHKRHKRHKRHKRH and then (lower pitched)
There is a missing visual effect related to this as well, why on earth does MWO not have pronounced heat wave effects? I know Cryengine supports them. The air around lasers and particularly above them, the air around mechs running over 30% heat, and those that have been recently hit should all be wavy as hell.
PPC's have always been described as lighting guns in the fluff, but I don't really know how they would sound because I don't know what they would do to the air. Supposedly there is some sort of particle projection fiedls that might keep it from fully interacting with the air? I need more info.
