Ok so I keep reading that a lower heat efficiency is better in the way that you will not over heat/shut down. Yet when I put more head sinks onto the mech the heat efficiency goes up and not down.
Can someone explain this or point me in the right direction?

It's actually higher heat efficiency = less shutdowns. More heatsinks definitely helps.
Generally speaking, you should try to keep it around 1.1-1.2 at least (especially starting out). That should give you a good amount of fire before heat gets rough. Depending on your playstyle, and the mechs/weapons you use, you can adjust up or down based on your preferences.

yeah that's what I read but the more heatsinks I add the more heat efficiency goes up. I'm at 1.5 now and it is impossible for me to over heat. But if I try to take some off it says i need to have more heatsinks...I only have 2 med lasers.

Hrmm. I would just ignore those warnings (I've seen some for engines and stuff). Take some heatsinks off and add more weapons
If it lets you launch, you should be golden.
