I never really installed this before. Not even once in CBT.
But when i went my HeavyweaponsPhract(Quad AC/2), and i had 8 tonnes of ammo to install, i installed 2 CASE units to protect 2 tons per torso(One case for 2 tonnes, left and right)
but does it basicly..Work? If i recall, if my left or rear torso gets blown away into a million pieces, that means i do NOT get an catastrophic ammo detonation right?

So How Usefull Is C.a.s.e?

yes exactly. You will still lose the torso section its in but your ammo won't explode and eat into your center torso.

I don't know how much of a fan I am for C a s e on a cataphract. I almost feel like it is wasted tonnage since the R and L torso have really small hit boxes and I have never had on get blown up. I also torso twist to try and distribute the dmg from the center torso but it always dies first on my cataphract.
one C A S E protects the whole section of the mech from exploding right?

If I remember the old rules correctly, CASE does NOT stop the ammo in the side torso from exploding but it DOES stop the explosion's damage from moving from the side torso's internal structure to the center torso. It basically contains the explosion within the side torso that blew up. By the way, losing a side torso means losing the arm attached to it because there's nothing left for the arm to attach to.

Think of a case that to the laggage compartment that they put your suitcase into before they put it onto the aircraft. If there was a bomb onboard the explosion would be contained within this compartment. I.E its a compartment within a compartment, more likelihood that the plane will survive the explosion and not crash.

As everyone else already posted, a CASE will protect the mech from blowing up completly. You will lose the side torso if there is enough ammo stored to blow it away, but the damage will not spread into the center. If the side torso is lost, you will lose the attached arm. So a CASE can save your mech from being a total loss, if your ammo explodes.
If you mount an XL-Engine, a CASE is a waste of weight and space. As soon as you lose the side torso, you will gain three engine criticals, blowing your mech out of the match anyway.
