Simples...

8 Defending, 12 Attacking, Choke points to give defenders an advantage. REASOMABLE time limit to attack base (5mins for example - not this BS 15m game clock we have now).

I've been campaigning for an Offense vs. Defense mode for a while...except I want it to go even further with a set of mandatory mission objectives that must be completed before offense can proceed into the enemy base for capture (e.g., "Destroy comsat stations at Nav Beta")

That way, defense can bring the battle to the enemy while they are trying to break down their defenses then they can retreat to the choke points when their base is open for attack.

I think this game mode would require it's own unique map, however. The map would require physical characteristics that would provide choke points and areas that were traversable by one side or the other only — like a sections guarded by gun emplacements and mine fields that cause automatic damage to any enemy mechs within the kill zone. That way defense could travel freely around the map, but offense would need to complete all their objectives first before these kill zones were shutdown, allowing them to pass freely through them.
