I was looking around to see if MWO will be optimized to use as many cores as possible if they are available and haven't seen much and was wondering if anyone knew anything.

I think the CryEngine3 can utilize as many as the game developer wants, but just because it can use say eight cores, doesn't mean that the game code will be written to be able to use that many.

I did find this interesting on the old engine

http://benchmark3d.c...s-2-benchmark/2

and was wondering if any of that would be relevant to MWO or if it will actually be able to use 4 or 8 cores. Anyone heard anything about any of this? Just curious.

Thx

At least 1, I'd guess.

At least 2, I'd guess, as I haven't seen a PC in stores in a couple of years that was a single core. Probably quad threaded given how CPU-happy CryENGINE 3 can be.

I hope they release the specs soon.

I've been due for an upgrade to my rig for a while now and I'm holding off until I know what I need for MWO.

I'll guess it'll utilize 2 cores. Doubt it'll be more.

At least one, no more than all, and twice as many as half of the ones it does.

Plus or minus 1 for rounding errors.

I was wondering the same thing as well. If you have 'extra' cores, do they really not participate in facilitating the game process at all?

CryEngine 3 is supposed to be able to use eight cores. Given that the engine is also targeted for the PS3, that makes sense.

How many the engine will really need is probably something more like four.

I would hope they would have a Reasonable Min spec running ability to gather as wide an audience as possible able to play(maybe with the fancy stuff turned off bare bones style), with ingame options to ramp up the Details if your PC/Laptop can handle it . My most recent experience has been world of tanks which runs on the bigworld engine , Dumps all the processing onto one core which on a multicore setup is A going to run badly with poor FPS no matter how good your GFX are and secondly potentially cause damage to your system over time.

You're concerning yourself with the CPU? You should be worried about your cooling system!

That is the engine and it's based on the CryEngine 3 which means that multicore CPUs are already in use. The devs aren't working on building the engine, they are pretty much working on the game's content exclusively.

That is what flushable coolant is for, right?

Whats the average these days. don't most people have quad cores? lol. Anyway I would expect the game to utilize at least four for the sake of future machines.

2-4 is the obvious number, given the engine and Crysis 2's performance characteristics; more significant is that it's a moot point, as long as one isn't running DX9, because the game won't likely be CPU-demanding in DX10/11, since there's little rendering overhead for the CPU to deal with with the new APIs

That's yet something else one can gather from Crysis 2's performance characteristics (and that of games in general)

This is a bit off topic, but as mechwarriors shouldn't we know the differences between Calvary and Cavalry? I notice some logos that have it wrong as well. Unless of course the 5th Calvary Mercenaries are tied to a hill.

Grammar Nazi win ;)

and probably 6 cores given that 4 is already getting standard and 6 cores are already available and this is a "cutting edge" engine.
