For the Rifleman to live up to the marketing pitch it needs another 20 tons to work with. At that it could be a really impressive and versatile machine.

* = minimal post supposedly just enough to convince the dev's to include the mech
..now that that's done, I think the RFL is a good "skill-separater", It tends to split the mechwarriors and the gamers; one of em can get kills in a Rifleman, the other can beech and whine about not getting kills in a Rifleman.
That said...

Yeah, in MW4 in the early version of Mektek, the AC2/5 had a really awesome sound and I mounted 4 of them on a Rifleman and just fired them to hear the sound...the loadout didnt work half badly either +D I might try the same thing in MWO, but IS stuff weights tons more then Clanner equipment.

That being said, it's got it's virtues, namely in being able to alpha-strike surprisingly hard before swapping to a few cycles of just the autocannons. It works best against 'Mechs with a team-mate that can press the advantage. Give something all six guns and your override button becomes your best friend (or a double dose of just the quad arm mounts), but whatever you hit is gonna have big, big holes in it for another machine to savage further. Rifleman pilots should seek to kill before being killed, cause that armor isn't meant for slugfests. It's just enough to protect you while delivering that 'Mech-busting alpha strike, and if you're doing it right you'll run out of AC ammo about when you should run off the field.

Sorry, can't hear you over the sound of the 2 Atlas' reactor cores I just pierced through in a single alpha strike.

Any good long range/fire support mech can scrap it without too much trouble, and against a brawler it has a nasty punch, but it doesn't have the heatsinks or the armor to keep the fight going.
Having said that, more mechs is more awesome, and the rifleman deserves a spot if only because it's different. (also fan art has convinced me it's one of the sexiest mechs out there, in the looks department)
