Pre-speccing out my Mechs, know of a good site for reference?

Though I understand that PGI may make some changes that invalidate the ability to make the Mechs I spec, does anyone know of a site that offers a list of variants for the 3049 timeframe that also show mount types and locations?

I tried Solaris 7, but it doesn't list variants that are on the BTech Wiki. And the BTech Wiki doesn't indicate the timeframes of the variants or give detailed info on where the mounts and what type they are.

Try here Aegis. I think you can pick the Era.

Thanks for the link Maxx.

The search result is nice in that it shows me variants, but I take it I would have to cross reference that variant else where in order to find out what types of mounts exist in what locations? Or am I not seeing that on this website?

It may not be there but you could try and cross-ref with here. Other than that, the Books have it all but cost C-Bills. ;)

P.S. Aegis, have you looked at any of your MW Game Manuals? They should show Stock configs and mounts perhaps.

I would just download Solaris Skunk Werks (or is that what you mean by "Solaris 7"?). There is a master mech file available that has many many mechs and variants. You can filter mechs and equipment by era, or year, Clan or IS, etc.

I have that, and have been teaching myself how to use it (great app) But I never knew about this "master mech file". I wasn't familiar that this program supported forcing/abiding by a specified set variant (would LOVE it if it did!)

It won't make you stick to any variant, but it can restrict equipment and mech choices by year.

/edit -- I use it to look through a mech's variants and find one with hardpoints (I just look at the equipment tab and it shows where everything is mounted) that match my needs. Then I go about replacing weapons with other weapons of the same hardpoint type, etc.
It's not foolproof but I have found it useful.

It has been the best solution so far just due to how robust it is. Of course, as you mentioned, we would never know if a particular variant had mounts that simply weren't used, but we all gotta start somewhere! ;) Thanks.

Yeah I think PGI is going to have to assign those unused hardpoints arbitrarily -- finding official sources for that info is likely a losing prospect, as I doubt anyone even typed that up for the vast majority of mechs.

Given you have the Stock (Sarna.net) version, then any mounting done based on known Variant or new Variant (use of open space) will only be impacted after we find out more about how the Torso vs Arm convergence system will function. That of course assume no guns in Legs... ;)

Really liking this Dervish rebuild (since we're likely to see the Dervish eventually anyways, it won its poll);

Armament; 2 Med Lasers (LA/RA)
4 SRM6 (LA/LT/RA/RT)
5/8 Standard engine
Endo Steel
Ferro Fibrous - 9 tons/162 points
Double Heatsink (10)
5 Jumpjet
4 tons SRM6 ammo w/ Case split between LT and RT

Essentially it's a well armored city fighter/bird of prey that swoops in for the kill with its jumpjets, gets a lock and unleashes a ridiculous amount of damage. Can be made off of the DV-6M under current mechlab rules or if there are ever armor/internal structure/heatsink swap limitations, you can make it off of the DV-7D, both available by 3050 TRO.

I can see it pairing up with a Hunchback and performing hit and run attacks while crit seeking with all of those missiles as the Hunchback punches holes for those SRMs to get through. It is heavily armored enough it could be a distraction as well, letting the hunchback get shots into the enemy rear armor... delicious.

If you could see the 'Mech's spread sheets, I assume you could infer the weapons slots by looking at that model's current weapons, see where they are, and see how many critical spaces those weapons take up. So for example, I can take the Awesome-8Q, see that it has 3 PPCs and a small laser. Knowing that, I know it will have three 3-slot energy mounts and one sing-slot energy mount. So I can then assume I can put 3 large and 4 medium lasers on it, or up to 13 medium lasers. Sounds like I've got a project for the MWO wiki!

The hardpoints indicate how many weapons can be mounted total, the crit slots are only relevant to how much total space is available. for instance, if you have a ballistic hardpoint and 10 units of ammunition in your left torso, you can mount an AC2 there but not an AC20, but if you only have 2 units of ammunition there, you can mount an AC20 (providing tonnage requirements are met as well).

It's important to note, you would only ever be able to mount one weapon in that spot.
