If you make the maps bigger, LRM's will no longer be dominating the battlefield?

Press B ingame for the short sited version of the map. Maybe that will help.
Alternatively you can read up on what the developers have written.
P. S. I though the AC2, AC5, UAS5s, Gauss and SSRMs are the flavor of the day domination weapons.

I mean physically bigger! If the maps are increased in size then the long range weapons will not be able to dominate as much as they will be more spread out?

I'd rather the maps be bigger so I can have more room to play in.

According to the 11/20/12 "content roadmap" post, there is currently a ~30% chance that the Desert map - previously indicated to be planned to be larger than what we have so far - could be included in-game on or around Dec. 18th.

Larger maps are coming. Alpine and Desert are both 2+x the size of caustic. So fret not.

The ambient temperature is slightly warm, with occasional rains sweeping through the area. In the centre of this area is a large, fairly flat field, though it is surrounded by high hills that allow excellent vantage points across most of the map. Care must be taken to not be caught in the open in either the centre field or the water, as there is little cover and incoming fire can be difficult, if not impossible, to avoid. Also of note is the cave, which can allow quick movement from one side of the map to the other, safe from overhead fire or flanking attacks. Beware, however, as it is easy to become trapped inside if there are enemies lying in wait. All weapons are viable here, though LRM’s can be used to excellent effect in the open middle areas, particularly when paired with good scouting.
