This mech is amazing. The cataphract is the closest thing we have to an omni mech. I can build like any is load out I can think of with theses things. The 4x im running now is the nastiest build I have ever played. 2 UAC5 + 2 AC5 = 30 dmg a firing cycle provided no jams. WOWZA lol when I get anything in my sight it crumbles. Especially other cataphracts because they are SO easy to cockpit. Almost everytime I die its because my cockpit is gone. Totally worth it.

Oh yeah and f u guys im still here.

All models of the Cataphract are amazing, this new mech has re-sparked our intrest into the game quite a bit, it is without a doubt a Juggernaught of destruction if played right and built right, so far it is currently my mech of choice full time

There are four Cataphracts: 2X 3X 4X 3D. The Cataphract 3L requires MASC which has not been introduced yet.

but there is a variant that comes with one. I'm guessing this one isn't it. That chassis costs 9m.

The CTF-3D has the XL Engine, this mech is worth every penny, less the jump jets, sold them right away, add all ammo to the legs then go kill everything, also double heat sync it asap...comes with the LB 10-X AC, a great weapon with good range.

yeah I think its the 3D. Im not a big fan of XL engines in anything larger than a cicada so I took mine out.

I'm the opposite. love them in the big bruisers...so long as i have the premium bonus going, that helps offset a lot of the larger repair bills. so, I think getting the version w/ the xl is up my alley!

The 4X is a great mech, played with it a bit last night. No head shots, so the fix must've rolled out. I was running with 4x AC/2 and a couple of MPLs, stock engine, Endo Steel upgrade. It's very expensive to run, but I had a Gauss kitty and an LRM boat cowering from the fire suppression I was laying down.

Next up will be the quad AC/5 after I get sufficient cash for the DHS upgrade, not using the missile head slot (seems like a bit of a waste, worked well at stock with an LRM5, but it really doesn't fit with the ballistics and laser range).

Slap a SSRM in it to give you a little extra punch to go with the Lasers. (Edited for speeling.) :)

The quad AC5 4x wouldn't need DHS; with a few single heatsinks and 5 tons of ammo mine has a heat eff. above 1.4. Chain firing the ACs is ridiculous... boom boom boom boom... had a silly grin on when using them. I was pretty amazed at seeing an Atlas' armor just get totally stripped in seconds.

Best used at range with support against a head on target.

I'm just hoping that there wont be a crowd of "omg 4X 4 ballistic is too OP" that will force PGI to change that.
I'm quite enjoying my AC2 machinegun. Gunning down people that overheat feels like a mobster execution.

Both AC2 and AC5 generate 1 heat per fire. The AC5 fires much slower than the AC2 so would generate less
heat.

Without Masc and or the Plasma Rifle in game, it is highly unlikely the 3L or 3LL will ever see daylight...

hmmm they need to reduce cockpit shake from ballistics quickly before the intense rage on forums. As the shake from my dual ac5 dual ultra ac5 is insane and it shreds anything that is not moving or moving forwards. I have been on the receiving end of it too and its not pleasant you can't retaliate effectively at all.

Edit: Burst damage is insane but heat management prevents you from rolling everything solo. 2-3 of these builds on a team could easily take out 8 man teams
